Run
Comments: From the first step I knew I was in trouble. I usually get into a rhythm, but that never happened. I was constantly wishing that this race would just hurry up and get over. My normal race pace is a consistent pace for every mile or even faster as the miles go on. For this race my pace slowed every mile. Not good... What would you do differently?: I haven't been training lately specifically for a running race. My coaching buddy says what you were doing three weeks ago most directly affects your race. Well, three weeks ago I was tapering for an HIM. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Post race
Warm down: Actually, not much warm down was required since at the end of the race I hadn't been expending much effort. Waited on some friends to finish up. What limited your ability to perform faster: HIM two weeks ago? Event comments: The new timing system worked a little better than last year, but they still had some problems. My friend's time didn't show up on the original results. Where did it go? And it really was a poor man's chip timing system -- no mats at the beginning, so chip time = race time. But they were able to get the awards started about 40 minutes faster than last year, so that's a good thing. Last updated: 2009-04-11 12:00 AM

Bad night sleeping -- woke up entirely too early. Finally got up at 5, had some coffee and a Clif bar, then tried out my Garmin and the battery was low! Delayed leaving for the race for about 10 minutes, in hopes that I could get enough of a charge to make it through the race (and I did).
Warm-up jog for about 6 tenths of a mile, at an 8:55 pace. Turns out that pace beat my race pace -- what a lousy day!
