Swim
Comments: Four swimmers per lane, but we were perfectly spread out, and evenly matched within the lane, to the point that we didn't really push each other. This swim was 20 seconds faster than last year, but I don't feel like I really worked hard at it. I know I could have been faster. What would you do differently?: Pull harder. Kick harder. Transition 1
Comments: It was cold out, so I took the time to put a jacket over my tri suit. (I LOVE the new jacket I got!) Went sockless in the bike shoes, no problem there. I'm just figuring a minute because transition times are added into the biking portion. I have no idea how long it actually too me in T1, so I'm taking only 1 minute off my bike time. What would you do differently?: Baubled my helmet a little bit. Maybe should have tried it on first thing in the morning. If it had been warm, I would have skipped the jacket. Bike
Comments: I knew I didn't have to run after this, so I gave it all I had. I caught a couple of riders that I knew were on women's teams, but I wasn't sure if I had caught them all. What would you do differently?: Make sure, sure, sure that I have my inhaler with me. I was really wheezing on the way back. Tried to relax and take calmer breaths. Otherwise, I was really happy with this ride! Transition 2
Comments: Just a hand-touch to tag the runner, so there really was no transition time. Run
Comments: Dawn ran this. I'm not a good runner. She said that at one point she thought she was at the top of the hill, but when she crested, it went up again. She was upset, so she walked a little, then got her fire back. We read an interview in the paper today from Linsey Corbin (5th place woman at Kona 2008). She is a Missoula local, and she said she walks part of that hill. That made Dawn feel better! What would you do differently?: I don't know what Dawn would have done, but I think she did awesome! Post race
Warm down: Paced back and forth at the finish line. I had come upon a rider who had flatted. She said she had a tube, just needed air, so I dropped my pump on the road for her to use. I waited, and waited, for her to come in. Pacing is a good cool down. She came in an hour later, riding. She may not have been able to figure out how to use my pump. I didn't see her, but she left my pump at the office. Oh, and when I went to shower.....voila! my inhaler! right there in the bottom of the bag. What limited your ability to perform faster: I suuuuuure could have used my inhaler! Wish I would have pushed my limits on the swim. Very happy with my bike time! Event comments: This race runs amazingly on schedule. There is an abundance of volunteers. The courses are very well marked, leaves little room for confusion. Last updated: 2009-04-11 12:00 AM

Woke up at about 6:00 a.m. They didn't have any bananas at the motel, so I ate a little bagel and had a little orange juice. Maintained normal hydration. Could not find my inhaler. Took everything out of my bag, checked every pocket, looked under stuff. Decided I would have to live without it.
I used the number of women for our overall ranking of 23/172.
Jumped up and down on the mats a little bit to get my heart rate up. That's about it.
