Swim
Comments: Course was changed due to rough waters - 23 mph wind, 30 mph gusts. Don't know the official wave height - but they were big. Tried to cut out to stay in flatter water and not get caught at the bouy like I saw in earlier waves, may have cut out too far and increased my swim. Bouy line was not straight, based on husbands pictures I may have done OK with my directions. What would you do differently?: Turned sooner at the bouy and remember to think about my stroke form more. Was mostly concentrating on the waves and how big they seemed Transition 1
Comments: Got lost! went down the wrong row - lost a lot of time because all of a sudden I had to start reading numbers and figure out what I did wrong. Wet suit never comes off all that great. Kept my glasses dry! What would you do differently?: I might opt to use the wetsuit strippers next time. Watching them at the HIM the next day - they are pretty fast and consistant. Figure out a method to getting bike gloves on faster - another slow point, don't go on wet hands very well. Bike
Comments: Passed a ton of people, very fun. Was comfortable and felt good. The way back, wind was more of a factor then I expected, brought down my ave. speed. Did not hit my targets, but cource in general was slower then last year What would you do differently?: Remember to keep my intensity up and push out of the comfort zone a little more. Set up my gel better, forgot to start the rip and it didn't open properly for me and I dropped it! Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition. Remembered to take my gloves off this time. What would you do differently?: Need to practice mounting and dismounting on a moving bike - haven't gotten that skilled yet. Run
Comments: good run for me, nice improvement. Felt good and pushed myself where I needed to. Easy transition from bike to run What would you do differently?: More training, more training, more training Post race
Warm down: Lots of hugs from family and walking as I shuttle gear back and forth. Should have done a real cool down and better refueling - sometimes family comes first. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training time available and overall fitness level. Recovering from planter facitious, don't ever want to feel that pain again - so running has been a bit researved. Event comments: Very well run event. Well staffed from lifeguards, to good traffic controllers. Information is clear and accurate. Decent space for transition. Good food for participants and spectators. Lots of good watching locations for spectators - plenty of parking. Last updated: 2009-04-13 12:00 AM

Age Group Rank = 23/76
5:00 am - Egg/ham/cheese/english muffin sandwich + coffee, leave house by 5:30
Transition set-up in the rain, swap lenses for yellow
Clif Bar and gaterade about 1 hr before wave
Put on wet suit earlier then normal to help stay warm
early jog between car and transition area
mostly brisk walking
Did not swim - afraid of getting too chilled and having frozen feet. Saw lots of shivering and blue lips on other.
Laid out a plan to minimize impact of waves, tight bouye turn and poor lane markings (not straight to exit point)
