Swim
Comments: Finished 205th out of the 375 age groupers and 269/478 including the Elites, Clydes/Athenas & Teams. COLD!!! I may have to buy a wetsuit sometime. My "warm-up" swim was not comfortable. This is not the swim that I was hoping for or expecting. Don't know if the course may have been a little long or if it was just the cold water. I know some people like cool water, but not me. I never warmed up or got comfortable. Lack of pool time was also evident. No problems sighting, I swam pretty straight. Breathed to the right from the start, I think due to the cold water. I usually bilateral breathe for at least the first 300, even 200 when pushing, but not today. For some reason when I do this my back hurts. I got the same kind of back pain that I had running in Indy. Probably need to strengthen my core and lower back this off season. **Day after edit. I remember sighting way more than usual. Not sure if this was to get head out of cold water or what. Wonder if this hurt my time. Seems like I was sighting almost every other breath. What would you do differently?: More swim training and buy a wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: This was a long transition area and not a terrible time. I did ok here. What would you do differently?: Not much, maybe practice mounting bike with the shoes attached. Bike
Comments: Finished 13th out of the 375 age groupers and 27/478 including the Elites, Clydes/Athenas & Teams. This is a fast bike course except for the one turnaround. Corners were swept very well and plenty of volunteers out there. Just rode hard and kept at it. Did not get passed, but passed quite a few. Man those elites look and sound cool as they pass after the they hit the turnaround. What would you do differently?: I like the new cranks on my bike, but am not completely sold as I think they may have dropped my cadence and possibly hurt my run. We'll see how it goes in the next few races. Transition 2
Comments: No major hangups here, just a long run to the rack. Run
Comments: Finished 120th out of the 375 age groupers and 164/478 including the Elites, Clydes/Athenas & Teams. Not the run I was looking for or expecting. Not sure if this was due to cranks or a little lack of run training lately. Will step up the running and see what happens. What would you do differently?: More run training and be more mindful of my cadence during the ride. Post race
Warm down: Walked, talked, and cheered. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cold water, but same conditions for everyone. Event comments: Great race. These guys certainly know how to put on a race. Great food, great people, great atmosphere, and great venue. Last updated: 2009-04-14 12:00 AM

Up early, of course (3:45am). Bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios w/ banana and strawberries. Pat drove James and I to race. Got numbers and set up transition. Air up tires and broke valve stem on rear so had to change tire in transition. 1/2 cliff bar about 1 1/2 hrs before race. 5 hr energy about 45 minutes before race.
Walked around and chatted. Drooled over some of the bikes and wheels in transition. Got in the water about 10 minutes before the first wave started. About 100 yards of swimming for "warmup."
