Swim
Comments: I was a bit nervous about the swim. I haven't been able to sight well during practice. Also my goggles fog up a lot. I was pretty calm for this swim. I kept a pretty good line and didn't get off course. It's a bit easier to sight when you have a line of people in from of you all swimming in the same direction. The swim back in was directly into the sun. My goggles were fogged, so I was having a hard time seeing where I was going. Overall a "ok" swim for me. What would you do differently?: Learn how to sight better. More practice. I've never been that good of a swimmer, so I don't know how much I can improve. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty slow transition. But since this was my first one under race conditions, I guess I did ok. I had trouble getting my socks on because my feet were still a bit damp. I didn't forget anything, so that was good. What would you do differently?: More practice of transitions. Try to keep my balance a bit better. Make sure to dry feet off better. Bike
Comments: I felt like I pushed pretty hard on the bike. I left a little in the tank for the run. The hills weren't too bad. The road got pretty bumpy on Mt. Hope and Beaumont. Overall a nice bike ride for me. What would you do differently?: Looking back, I wish I would have pushed a bit harder. I also didn't use my aero bars since I just put them on the bike a week ago, and wasn't comfortable using them yet. I need to get faster on the bike. Losing weight should help that. Transition 2
Comments: Another slow transition. I was running with my bike shoes on so I didn't want to run too fast and wipe out. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions more. Run
Comments: I felt like I was running so slow for the first mile. My legs just weren't there. After they started working, I was able to keep up a nice pace. I'm very surprised I ran as fast as I did. What would you do differently?: Trust my legs and just run faster. More training and losing weight will help. Post race
Warm down: None. Just hung out with the BT crew. Stood in the long line, with Jamie, for free race food. What limited your ability to perform faster: My weight and lack of experience. Event comments: This was a wonderful race for beginners. I couldn't have asked for anything more for my very first tri. I'm hooked and will be doing this race every year!! Woke up at 4:15. For breakfast, I had a whole grain bagel and a banana. We packed up the escape and were on the road by 5 AM
Jamie and I did a short run. After that we visited with BT'ers. I swam a couple of laps in the swimming section before my individual start.
