Pre-race routine:

Got up early, had Special K with Red Berries, a banana with peanut butter and gatorade.

As always, I did very little to warm up.

Comments:

This was my first open water swim and I enjoyed it. I didn't wonder around the lake as much as I thought I would. I had trouble sighting the last 200 yards because of goggle fog but I followed the guy in front of me, who was sighting pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Use better goggles.

Comments:

I think the suit was bonded to my lower right leg, I barely got it off. This was a very slow transition. I got onto the bike quickly once I got to the mount line and took off well and got into my shoes well.
What would you do differently?:

Use the wetsuit stripper and I think I would have saved some time.

I went through a good amount of G2 on the ride and I felt pretty good. I wanted to stay over 21 mph average and I did so I'm happy.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder, I had some left I think.

I was focused on speed and did not come out of shoes, was not thinking about transition on the way in so I had to run in my shoes. Poor beginning but everything else went ok for me.
What would you do differently?:

Focus on what I need to do and get out of my shoes in time and get ready to transition better.

I had some quad cramps in the 3rd and 4th mile which slowed me down some but not a great deal, I was very close to my 9:00/mile goal. I'm just not a fast runner compared to some other but I am happy with my personal performance.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare nutritionally better to prevent cramping.
Post race
Warm down:

After the finish I downed a First Endurance Ultragen and then a banana. I stretched out a little and walked some before using the massage stick on my legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramping on the run, everything else was ok.

Event comments:

I was signed up as a Clydesdale but got put in an age group, oh well. I did well for myself. The race was a good time, was well organized and fun!! The weather was perfect and the time with the other athletes was great, good job everyone, especially Forward Motion Athletics!! I look forward to next year.
