Swim
Comments: This was my third OWS ever. This was the first time I didn't feel completely spent coming out of the swim. I started in the middle towards the back and took it really slow till the first buoy. On my previous swims I made the mistake of starting out too strong to be clear of the other swimmers, only to die towards the end. This time I was feeling more composed through out the swim. Goggles started to leak half way thru, but I was still able to see fairly well, so just kept going. What would you do differently?: Buy better goggles that don't leak. Maybe start drafting off people. Transition 1
Comments: Slightly slow T1, took me some time to get my socks on. Nothing really eventful. What would you do differently?: Look at cycling with out socks, flying mount etc. Bike
Comments: The bike was good. This is the second time I have averaged 20 mph on sprint course. Legs were feeling really good and the HR was under control. Passed a lot of people going out. Got passed by some really fast guys in the older age groups riding with the disc wheels/expensive setup. I wanted to chase them down just for the hell of it, but decided against it. Better conserve some energy for the run. What would you do differently?: Look at buying some aero wheels, I heard they make a lot of difference since they have less rotational inertia. Transition 2
Comments: Really fast transition for me. There was a steep hill at the start of the run course. My running shoes have no traction on wet surfaces, and I almost faceplanted making the tight right hander out of transition. Run
Comments: I ran the course as a practice on Friday and did it in 22:50. The weather was much cooler on race day and that helped me a little. I felt some stitches on my left side all through out the run. I tried to keep a slow cadence going and vowed not to walk. In the last half mile, a couple of guys started running along side me. They started pushing the pace, and I decided to go along with them. The finish is the only part of the run that is exciting to me and I think I have fairly good closing speed. Anyways, one of the guys dropped out and me and another guy pretty much went balls out for the last 200 m. Almost crashed into the race photographer at the finish line. What would you do differently?: Not sprint at the finish line. It is not the smart thing to do, as it leaves me completely spent. But I had fun doing it. Post race
Warm down: Had water and some oranges. Waited for the pizza which got there shortly thereafter. Event comments: This was my second Playtri race and I have been fairly impressed with them. They are well organized, I am always amazed as how they have pizza delivered so early in the morning (didn't know pizza places were open that early). I had heard bad things about the swim location before the race but it turned out to be pretty good. Last updated: 2009-04-16 12:00 AM

Since I live in Las Colinas, I decided to sleep in a bit since the event was only a couple of miles from my home. Got to transition about 20 minutes before race start. Set up my transition, wished I had brought trash bags to keep my socks from getting wet from the light drizzle.
