Pre-race routine:

The rain was coming down in sheets on the drive from Olathe to Lawrence. Was hoping I wasn't driving there for nothing if the race got canceled. Rain let up about 6:00 and stayed away for the race.

Watered down Gatorade and a Roctane about 20 min before the start.
Event warmup:

Ran around the park for ~1/2 mile. Tried to stay warm.

Comments:

Ran about like I planned to. Pushed about as well as I could without killing myself. Made sure I'd be able to finish.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Post race
Warm down:

Water, Gatorade, ate 2 really good hot dogs after the race, figured I'd earned it. Warm down is a relative term, cause the cold wind started dropping my core temp, so decided to jump on a bus and head back to the race start/parking area.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall fitness, had a hard ride the day before on the Kansas Half Iron bike course.

Event comments:

Not sure I liked the bus back to the starting area thing, but they did seem to have a pretty good system going. Can't really fault the race organizers for the water on the course or the wind.

It appears from several different Garmins that the course was a couple 10ths short. That's kind of a bummer.

Still, can't really complain since the race was free w/Ironman Kansas 70.3 sign up.

Course: Plenty of hills, but nothing that was too much of a killer. Going back up the hill into the wind at the last half mile was a little rough. Lots of variety, downtown, parks, subdivisions, KU campus. Race started right on time. There wasn't too much of an issue with water on the course after all the rain. Worst spot was on the running trail through the park, there was a 20 foot section with about 4 inches of water flowing across it. Everyone tried to skip through it as best they could, but it pretty much soaked your feet no matter what you tried. Heard a few four letter words. A few tight/narrow corners on the course that I could have done without, especially after my feet were soaked.
