Swim
Comments: My first open water swim. Nervous and couldn't stop thinking about being out in the middle of the lake. Did a lot of breaststroke and backstroke. Didn't navigate good. What would you do differently?: Practice open water swimming. Transition 1
Comments: Walked most of the way up the boat ramp to gather myself. Got wetsuit off pretty quick. Bike
Comments: Pushed it as hard as I could the entire way. Had a good ride and made up a lot of the time I gave away on the swim. What would you do differently?: Drink more. Transition 2
Comments: Broke my cyclocomputer racking the bike. Sheet!!! What would you do differently?: Drink before leaving transition area. Run
Comments: Gave it all I had but was totally gassed from the struggle in the water. Had to walk 3-4 times for a couple of steps but got a second wind about 1/2 mile from the finish. What would you do differently?: Run more. Post race
Warm down: Drank water and Gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: A terrible swim. Event comments: Finished 1.5 minutes out of the bronze medal. A decent swim would have meant all the difference. I stopped at the reservoir the afternoon before to check it out and the wind was howling about 40mph causing 2 foot whitecaps. I didn't sleep at all thinking about it. More open water swimming practice will get me comfortable. Last updated: 2005-07-20 12:00 AM
