Swim
Comments: TERRIBLE SWIM!!! I was physically prepared to swim over 1500m, but the Open Water, the Kelp and swimming with a group sort of freaked me out. I had planned on breathing every 3 or 5 strokes, but I was so spooked and panicky that I was breathing and siting with EVERY stroke practically. Had to roll over on my back to get my breathing and nerves under control. At least on the second half of the race I settled down a little bit and started swimming 5-10 strokes between siting. What would you do differently?: MORE OPEN WATER TRAINING!! MORE OPEN WATER TRAINING!! MORE OPEN WATER TRAINING!! More swim drills.. not just doing laps, but drills that make me better. Need to do some research on that. Transition 1
Comments: Thought I was quicker. Got my wetsuit down to my waist right out of the water, but it did get stuck on my heels. I sorta forgot the chip/ankle strap was UNDER my wetsuit and I wasted some time getting the suit off my left leg. Bike
Comments: Best phase of my race. Felt comfortable and strong. On the valleys I was blasting past people on the downhills.. but there were these two girls, #252 and a girl in light blue that kept reeling me in on the uphills. Each time we hit a downhill I thought I was passing them for good, only to see them steam past me. LOL! I better sign up for a spinning class! Also, I was starting to feel really sore around mile 10. What would you do differently?: Use my gears better. Do cycling drills and not just log miles. Do more long rides and/or get a new seat. Transition 2
Comments: Got to the rack ok. Felt a little stiff bending down to take off my cycling shoes and put on my running shoes. Grabbed my Gu drink and was off. What would you do differently?: Leave the cycle gloves at home! I noticed alot of people didnt have them and I had trouble getting mine off. Also, get some speed laces. Run
Comments: Ran with a 10oz bottle with GU hydrating fluid. Actually did better than I expected. I had gotten sick 3 wks b4 the race and only had a week and half to get back into it. Had bonked on my last few bricks leading up to the race. My pace was about what I expected (slower than I wanted) What would you do differently?: More speed work, intervals and bricks. Post race
Warm down: Downed a couple waters, oranges and honey bagels. YUM! What limited your ability to perform faster: I was hoping to be 3 mins faster in the swim. Everytime I put 10 strokes together I gained on, or passed people. Need to avoid the panic attack that hit me in the open water. Also my transition times are areas where I could pick up a few minutes. Event comments: Really fun race with beautiful scenery. Last updated: 2009-04-19 12:00 AM

Ate a Cookies & Cream Powerbar and coffee for breakfast and started drinking water. The transition area was 1/2 mile away from my hotel and got to the transition area in plenty of time. Set up my bike/gear and got body marked. Should have put more thought into how it was laid out. Still learning what works. =D
No real warm up.. Hung out with my mom for a little before getting in the water about 15 mins before my wave started. Got a little familiar with the water and the waves. Did a couple of water entrances and dolphin dives before going back to wait with my group.
