Swim
Comments: Started far far too fast, overtook 3 people in first 40m, then knackered my breathing, had to resort to slow breatstroke for 50m. Then settled down and the remainder of the swim was at about target speed. Lost count of lengths in confusion at the begining and accidentally swam 450m :( What would you do differently?: Start below target speed and then speed up towards the the end, much less risk of probelsm that way. Practice swim more in trisuit as breathing pattern is different (easy exhale, harder inhale). Transition 1
Comments: T1 went very well considering it's the first I've ever done. Could have ran a little faster to and from the bike rack, but overall pleased with this performance. What would you do differently?: Run harder to and from the bike. Practice jumping start and leaving shoes in pedals. Bike
Comments: Very happy with averrage speed of ~30kph, a personal best for this course. Didn't take any fluid on board - silly. This time includes approx 200m run, across a public road, and down through the park to the transition area - so actual bike time was probably a minute or so less. What would you do differently?: Nutrion did not agree with me, will swap for another brand.Could have pushed harder on the up-hills on the way through East Marton and up to West Marton, kept too much back in reserve. Transition 2
Comments: Very pleased with this transition, did eveythign I needed to do. What would you do differently?: Throw-away hydration so i could be drinking on the first lap. Run
Comments: Started well, not too much trouble with cirulation after the cycle. Day was warming up nicely so it was a very pleasant run. What would you do differently?: Could have pushed harder on the second lap, I had plenty of energy to spare. Could have ditched my cycle jersey as it was a lot warmer by this point. Post race
Warm down: 5-10 mins streching and a 20 min gentle walk around the park. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being over conservative with my energy during the cycle and the second half of the run. Bad start in the pool and misscounting cost several minutes. Event comments: Overall very pleased with this, my first every Triathlon and first ever althetic event/race of any sort since secondary school sports lessons. Last updated: 2009-04-20 12:00 AM
