Pre-race routine:

Stayed up in Louisville the night before. So pre-race was pretty easy. Bowl of cereal and a banana. Cup of coffee. Had a gel and a Red Bull right before.
Event warmup:

Ran a 1.5 miles with pickups and fought my way to the "A" wave. That was madness.

Comments:

Started off the run in the middle of my wave. Lined up right next to Chrissie Wellington. So I figured if anything she'll run even splits. Decided to stay in contact with her as long as possible. Hit the first hill and she held the same pace (sub-6), I glanced at my hr monitor and decided to pull back a little. I should have just rolled with it, cuz I seem to have my best races when I ignore my rolling data. I was just trying to stay really focused and not let my mind wander to anything other than the task at hand. I don't remember much of the outside stimuli, so I guess I was doing a decent job. I felt like I was going comfortably hard and didn't really need to dig until the last mile.
What would you do differently?:

I really should have pushed harder. Even though this was a PR I'm not satisfied, cuz I think I'm capable of better. I went into this race wanting to PR, but I should've went into it wanting to really hurt. I never really hurt. I mean really dig down and question what it is that really drives me. Oh well lesson learned.
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't really warm down. Woops! BS'ed with Chrissie for awhile. Found out we lived really close to each other in England. She's super cool and one of the neatest pro's I've ever talked to.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Low priority race.

Event comments:

If this were higher on the priority list, I think I would have been more rested and the intense desire to put myself in a place to dig and PR by much more. Beyond that I'm ok with the result. I'm getting faster and I know that when the race is important I will be ready to push deep!
