Pre-race routine:

Got up around 3:45 and started to get ready. Headed out around 4:15 for Lake Mills. Got there plenty early and got checked in and got a great spot in transition right at the end of the rack. Got all set up and chatted with some donks and others that I knew at the race. Definitely tried to stay warm as it was a little chilly at the start.
Event warmup:

Took the bike for a little spin to see how the legs felt after yesterday's long ride. Got in the water shortly before the start, but didn't swim, just tried to get used to the temp.
Swim
  • 07m 9s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was decent. Took off in the first row of my wave as I tend to do better starting there. As with Galena, on the first dive my right goggle started to fill up, but there were too many people behind me to roll and fix it so I just pressed on. Kinda tough to swim with one eye, but it really only bothered me as I got close to the bouys and close to the swim exit. I had no idea where I was going as I came in to the exit as there were only 2 or 3 guys from my wave in front of me, so I had trouble going off of others.
What would you do differently?:

Not have water in my goggles.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

This T1 sucked. My wetsuit got stuck on my timing chip and I was swearing like a sailor trying to get it off. I had my armwarmers rolled up and ready to go as it was cold, got those on pretty easily. Despite the wetsuit this was a decent T1, but the wetsuit more than likely cost me 45-50 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Not get the wetsuit stuck.

Comments:

I was really excited to race with my new disc for the first time. I was in wave 4 which was M25-29 and M30-34. We started after the Elite/Relay wave and the Novice Male and Novice Female waves. I did A TON of passing because of that. My legs were definitely feeling yesterday's 55 mile ride, but there are bigger fish to fry this year. After the race in Galena I really wanted to have a strong ride as I was really disappointed with that ride so I pushed it. I got passed by 2 guys around mile 8 and ended up passing them around mile 9.5 and one of the passed me back with less than 3/4 miles to go. I was a little disappointed with some of the guys in my AG, (one of which I know) as there was some Blatant drafting, but there is nothing I can do. I really respected the guy that passed me, as he was going by he gave me a compliment on my ride and let me know that he Really had to work to get back in front of me which made me smile. I am very happy with this ride overall though based on what I did overall this week and especially yesterday.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Excellent T2 except for smacking my head on the rack when I bent over to grab my visor.
What would you do differently?:

Not hit my head on the rack.
Run
  • 21m 59s
  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

This was a great run for me. I am not going to bitch like I usually do about my run. All I will say is that I don't know if I will ever be able to truely compete with the run skills I have. I just can't compete with the guys doing 16-18 minute 5Ks in sprints. Other than that I am REALLY REALLY happy with this run, I would have to look, but I am pretty sure that this is a 5K sprint PR for me.
What would you do differently?:

RUN FASTER
Post race
Warm down:

Definitely hurt immediately after this race. I left it all out on the course. Racing with people you know is much more fun than not really knowing many people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wetsuit getting stuck, wet roads which hurt some of the corners, and I guess running, but I am accepting that.

Event comments:

Great race overall and really great to see the Donks represent. Would have been nice to have some better weather, but you gotta take what you get.
