![]() Swim
Comments: All my times are estimated, but the swim felt pretty good. I went out really fast, and faded a bit the last 100M. What would you do differently?: Nothing, except maybe check my watch when coming out of the pool. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Socks went on a little slowly, otherwise no issues. What would you do differently?: I'm still afraid to try sockless. ![]() Bike
Comments: I felt great leaving T1, and heading south on the course dealt with a little wind, but nothing horrible. Almost got creamed by a couple of vehicles merging onto the I-70 onramp. Not quite as lonely as last year, I probably passed about 15 people on the bike. I really tried to push it on the couple of hills, so I maintained a pretty constant speed for the whole course. Overall pretty uneventful, which is always nice given wet conditions. What would you do differently?: Work on building my cadence. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Came into T2 somewhere between 41 and 42 minutes, so I knew that even with a great run I'd be closer to 1:10 than 1:00 for a finish time, which meant an AG placing was getting pretty unlikely. So, just put on my shoes and started running. What would you do differently?: Nothing. ![]() Run
Comments: The run went really well. I felt fine, and maybe could have pushed a little harder. I was feeling really good about the fact that I hadn't been passed the whole race. Then, with a little less than a mile left, I get passed, and to add insult to injury it's a 35-39 guy. I kept with him for about 200M, and then had to back off. I felt a little better after realizing today that he ended up winning the age group. I did keep him in sight, and really pushed at the end. What would you do differently?: Not much. I was a little peeved that the folks at one of the water stations seemed more interested in chatting than in handing out water. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stretched, drank some water, and went to my car for my traditional post race beer. I had a couple of friends still out on the course, so I eventually went and found them on the run and jogged in with them. What limited your ability to perform faster: I missed placing in my age group by over 5 minutes, and there was no way I was going to make that much time up. Still, I am thrilled with my overall placing, and am really happy with how things are progressing for me. Event comments: Overall a well run, and very friendly race, especially for beginners. Looking forward to chip timing next year, and I'm going to get that AG placing! ;) Last updated: 2009-04-21 12:00 AM

Woke up before the alarm went off, was on the road by 4:30. Almost ran out of gas on the way to Hagerstown, but managed to find an open station. Other than that, sipped some gatorade and had a Clif Bar about an hour before starting.
Just stretched. With the rain I didn't feel really inspired to do any kind of warm up run.
