Swim
Comments: Swam three times this past week, first swims since last September. Times reflect that dedication to swim training. What would you do differently?: Train. But it's been a run-focus winter, and the swim is such a small part of this race. Transition 1
Comments: Longish run, barefoot on concrete, but not too bad. Pretty uneventful, went like clockwork. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this was pretty smooth and fast, considering the distances. Bike
Comments: We felt the wind on our warmup, but it picked up considerably by the time we got on the bikes for real. Splits per watch show about 15:30 (19mph) going out and 13 minutes coming in (23+mph). Probably passed 20-30 people on the bike. What would you do differently?: Spend more time on the bike, of course. Transition 2
Comments: Perfect What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Feeling the wind on the bike is normal, but this is the first time I remember feeling a significant wind effect on the run. Course was out and back, first mile was directly into the headwind, second mile had the tailwind. Took me 8:05 going out and less than 7 minutes to come in. Only one person (26-yo) passed me, yet I passed like 5 or 6. Unusual for me to pass people on the run, guess that's what you get with a swim-seeeded time trial start. What would you do differently?: Other than turn off the wind, nothing. Post race
Warm down: Jogged a little, walked around, watched Dylan and Angel finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training on swim and bike, plus the wind. Two and a half minutes faster than lst year, all of it on the run. Bike was ~1 minute slower, which I'm attibuting to the wind. AG wasn't very competitive (won by six minutes) but did manage to beat some local "rivals" from other AGs. And 13th overall (top 10%) not too shabby. Event comments: Small, short race, but well-organized and competitive. Lots of amenities, good food post-race, door prizes. AG medals were nice as well. Good first-time race with a short pool swim, or if you're like Angel and don't swim in the "dirty water.". Dylan, Angel and I all won door prizes. Last updated: 2009-04-21 12:00 AM

Woke to coffee and bagels, showered, dressed and drove about an hour to the race site in Eunice, at the LSU campus there. Picked up packets, set up transition.
Rode about four miles with Dylan, then did a little jogging. Nothing too serious.
