Pre-race routine:

Got there early and got an end spot on the rack. Talked to Mountainbreeze and others about the race. Swam about 100 yards to warm up. Decided to have a go today w/o the wetsuit and see what the difference was.
Event warmup:

Swam about 100 yds.
Swim
  • 07m 30s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Went w/o the wetsuit tonight. Felt good for the whole swim, found a great pair of feet to draft off of and I think that helped. Came out of the water about a minute slower than last week, but totally rested and ready to go.
What would you do differently?:

Try wetsuit again next time.
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

T1 went great, w/o the wetsuit it was just put on socks and shoes and get going.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 31m 52s
  • 11 miles
  • 20.71 mile/hr
Comments:

Decided to try the Peter Reid test this week. Take it easy on the bike and hammer the run. The bike felt really good, not a crazy effort and was able to stay aero quite a bit. Rob and I kept passing each other, I think his new bike might be illegal. :)

Avg. HR 158
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

T2 went smoothly, got bike racked and helmet and shoes off no problem and was able to get running shoes on and tied w/o incident this time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 20s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt great getting off the bike. The Peter Reid experiment definitely works. However, do not use a different race nutrition than you are used to in training. I used LL gatorade during the bike and I think it caused me to get a side stitch to where I had to walk a bit (maybe 45-60 seconds). Once I got rid of the stitch I was able to pick up the pace and really fly.

Avg. HR 169
Post race
Warm down:

Drank Enurox R4, rest of gatorade and H2O. Talked to other competitors and discussed the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramp during the run.

Event comments:

This is a great training race w/ a nice laid back atmosphere!!
