Overall Rank = 258/360

Age Group Rank = 27/34
Pre-race routine:

Banana, Cliff Bar, Infinit drink
Event warmup:

Light stretching, 10 min. jog, 10 min. bike, 10 min. swim
Swim
  • 22m 46s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started too far right, then got a little too excited at the start and it cost me with a sucky swim. Started feeling tired midway and caught myself losing focus and swimming sloppy. Did not sight regularly like I should have, started zig zagging. Was DFL in my AG among finishers.
What would you do differently?:

Remember to KEEP CALM at the beginning, start slow and efficient, GRADUALLY build speed.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Managed well even though I had some trouble getting the bike shoes on (glad I decided to run with the bike one-handed, it's faster). Mount line was tricky (immediate steep downhill) and grass was wet (I spun the back wheel during practice, so I decided not to do a flying mount). (102 overall, 13 in AG)
What would you do differently?:

Figure out different ways to do a flying mount given different conditions
Bike
  • 57m 34s
  • 16.85 miles
  • 17.56 mile/hr
Comments:

The rain definitely was a factor: made roads slick. Decided to be conservative on the turns and the fast downhill runs. Did not drink enough during the ride (didn't feel like reaching for the bottle).
What would you do differently?:

Considering the wet conditions, nothing. Need to remember to drink more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Steep hill to the dismount, so I decided to stop then dismount and not risk a fall. Got in and out of T2 well. (148 overall, 13th in AG)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 27m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

One word describes that hill: pain. Still, I kept jogging and passed some people. Lost some strength at the end, couldn't do long strides at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Work more on long strides for the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

eat, eat, eat Yeah Subway!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Limited swim technique and poor swim management.

Event comments:

Great race organization, although they need to keep better control of the cars on the course. I gotta spend more time swimming to get my technique down. Still, considering last year's Culpeper was my first (Swim=28:19; Bike=1:07:29; Run=31:48), progress is being made.
