Swim
Comments: Not a bad swim. We had a little current as we went along the cross section of the lake, which is the longest section. Also heard rumors the swim was a bit long. I'd believe it because I expected to be closer to 26mins or so. Got out good and was on a pair of feet. At about the first bouy I realized he was a bit slow for me so i started to pass him. Coming up on the 1st turn bouy I spotted another pair of feet and worked hard to catch them. Got there around the first bouy but again he died off shortly after that. So I was in no mans land for much of the swim. Kept a pretty good line as I passed right next to bouys. Just before the last turn bouy I got passed by 2 guys in the wave behind me. Couldn't hold there feet. On in the part, you couldn't see shit because of the sun. I spotted using some of the faster guys in front of me and hoped they were on line. At one point I could start to see the flags at the finish, but still couldn't see the bouy. All of a sudden I popped up and there was a bouy right in my face. So apparently still did a good job of navigating. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I'm happy with this swim. Especially if it was 100m long as some suggested. Transition 1
Comments: Still need to work on a flying mount, but it was a good transition overall. Long run from the lake to transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: About 2 miles in a hit a hole and bounced on my saddle and forced the nose of the saddle down, so was in an uncomfortable position most of the time. I think this especially hurt me on the hills. Also probably killed the quads a bit more for the run. Overall not a bad bike. I know I can get the time down a little bit more. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Did my flying dismount and when I landed my shoe hit the ground, popped off, caused my chain to pop off and my back wheel to almost fall off, so I carried the bike to my spot. I blame some of this on the guy who was on my right and ended up going straight for his 2nd lap. I need to practice this a bit more and see if there is something I can do to avoid this. What would you do differently?: Nothing, still sub 1' with the problems. I think the bodyglide on the shoes helped gettign them on easier. Run
Comments: This was by far the hottest race/run I've ever done. The course has absolutely no shade on it. Plus the hills can kind of kill the legs. But the run course was the first spot I saw someone in my AG. I passed him at about mile 3. Then about mile 4 someone in my AG passed me. I tried to hang on and hoped I could put a surge in during the last 1/2 mile or so, but he was a good runner and I didn't have it in me. Come to find out he finished about 50" in front of me, but got a 2' drafting penalty on the bike, so I beat him anyways. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Nothing would have helped. Came across the finish line and found Jeff (Q) and thought he was about to die. Hung out with him to make sure he was okay and then walked up to the start of the finishing chute to cheer on Pete (Klondike). What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing Event comments: I wish they would make it clear on awards, are they top 3 or top 5. Don't go top 3 in one AG and then top 5 in the next. Got up at 4am, finished packing and had a bagel with low fat cream cheese. Left the house and remembered I need to stop and get gas. Pulled out of town just before 5am for the 50min drive.
Swam maybe 300-400 yds and stretched.
