Pre-race routine:

Went to wedding last night. I was a good boy and Y and I got to dance to our wedding sound. Sweet. Home and up till 11:30. Up at 7:00. Bowl of bran and yogurt to get things going and go they did. Made coffee and forgot the basket that hold the grounds. Really didn't work well. Salvaged a little. Got more at race site. Arrived at 8:10 and registered and returned the car. It was getting cold. Mike showed up. Told me were not really racing as we have a 16 mile run after. OK. That lasted for a mile and half. Met up with Heather and Jim. Told me I was the target for the day. Yikes. I told I taking it easy, she didn't care a win is a win.
Event warmup:

Ran 1/4 mile or so. Stretched and moved to the finish line.

Comments:

Started out mid pack. Not to crowded. We were little back from Heather. Had a nice loud horn to start the race. Good. Off we go. Flat for a 1/4 mile then up hills. Good grade. Heather had taken off. Mike and set a good pace I didn't bother asking him because we were moving well. Met with Heather up the hill. Encouraged her to stay with us. She can run very fast but she doesn't do enough hill. At the start of the second hill lost her. Top the hill I lost in front of me. He loves going down hill. I take it easy because of the pounding. Water station and threw the cup in my face. Me not them. Was feeling good with the downhill grades and flats. 5K was a 23:40. Hey not bad this is going to hurt later. Finish up trying to catch the guy in front of me. No go. The clock said 29:20 I believe but still waiting for results
What would you do differently?:

All felt good for a race before a long run.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed water and walked some and jogged a little.
Watch for Heather to come in 2 second in her age group. Good job!
Got a bagle and peanut butter, water and coffee. Needed a little energy.
Talked to a few folks. I had lots of compliments on my running getting a lot better and form looking. Great to hear. Thanks for the coaching Mike.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

30 pounds of weight.

Event comments:

Better then last year. Sweet. This race felt good. I wasn't gunning for Heather is and will be a good runner. She needs a little coaching to bring things together. She likes to run fast but needs to get a better base. She was a little disappointed in today's run. I am sure it won't be long before she is kicking the crap out of this old guy. Now off to run 16 miles. I really already did that and feel it.
