Swim
Comments: Felt alot different in the pool with my tri suit as opposed to a regular bathing suit. I cruised the first 4 laps and was gaining confidence. That's when my nose plug fell off. My normal one broke on Friday and this was the first time using my new one. I scrambled to retrieve it, but couldn't find it for anything. That definitely flustered me and threw me off my rhythm. It took me a few laps to recover and had to stop for a breather 2 or 3 times. About lap 10 is when I got my composure back and was able to finish pretty smoothly. What would you do differently?: Buy a different nose plug. Transition 1
Comments: Usually one of my weak points. Looking at the other people's times, my looks a little above average, which I'm happy with. Bike
Comments: Ride went pretty smoothly. Went out a little too hard, around 20 MPH, but settled in after a little. It helped, I think, to start late b/c I gained confidence from passing many people and not being passed by anyone. Rear derailleur is off a bit and doesn't let me shift into one of the chainrings in the back when I'm in the big one in the front. Previously I didn't think much of it and planned to get it taken care of next time I was at the shop. Turns out, I really needed this gear for the race and struggled whenever I was supposed to be in it. I need to get that taken care of ASAP! After a bunch of mechanical problems my last few races, I was very happy to actually finish a bike portion with no problems and pretty satisfied with my split. What would you do differently?: Get my bike fixed. Really need to start getting acquainted with aero position. I think this would really help my bike split and save my legs a bit for the run. Transition 2
Comments: Looks like I'm at the back of the pack for this one, which is usual. Had a gel, which may have eaten up some time. What would you do differently?: Invest in elastic laces. Run
Comments: Stomach felt heavy right off the bat from the gel. Probably the last time I'll have a gel in T2. Ugh... Made a wrong turn about 1/4 mile in and it ended up costing me about 1:40. My pace on my Forerunner had 6:53/mi which would have come out to be about 21:22, good for about 10th place in the run. Felt pretty decent on the run. Stomach felt heavy pretty much the entire time from the gel and the heat affected me a bit. The wrong turn was a bit demoralizing, but passing a bunch of people helped with that. What would you do differently?: Follow the advice of the big red NO arrows. Post race
Warm down: None. Finished towards the end and didn't have any time before the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wrong turn on the run. Heat a little, just because I'm not used to it yet. Not being in the aero position. Event comments: I was a little annoyed about the whole registration mixup. Which also caused me to not get my award (which would have been my first tri award). But I was being a pain in the ass by not registering on time and they were accomodating on race day, so I can't complain too much. Other than that, the race was well run, which helped my first pool swim go smoothly. A good early season race that I'm looking forward to doing again next year. Last updated: 2009-04-24 12:00 AM

The usual. Went to WAWA on my way there, picked up a large yellow Gatorade, large water, and small package of Cheerios. Ate about half of the Cheerios and a few sips of Gatorade on the way down.
Had a little bit of a fiasco when I got there. I couldn't pre-register since I didn't know if I'd be away for work until a few days ago. So, I emailed the director and he said to send him the info and it'd be taken care of. Sent my information (Name, Address, USAT#, CC#, etc.) and he said he got it and I'd be ready to go. Well I got there and they didn't have my information and didn't tell me until I got there that they couldn't use my credit card when I emailed it. So I ran around for about 30 minutes before I finally got registered... Luckily I had got money from the ATM at WAWA or I wouldn't have had enough cash.
My race number was at the very end, meaning I'd be last to start the swim. At around 7:30 I did about a half a mile warmup and headed to the pool. I wanted to get in there early, since it was my first pool swim and didn't know how it all worked. I sat about an hour before I was up to swim.
