Swim
Comments: This was 1:24 faster than last year. I am so glad I practiced OWS in heavy chop on our lake this week. My first 100y I got a little breathless as I tried to navigate my way through it all. I finally told myself to settle down, ride the waves and stay long (coach Steve's advice). It worked. The rest was fine. What would you do differently?: More OWS practice in our Lake in windy weather. More practice with people around me. Transition 1
Comments: Ok, this is faster than last year, but still WAY TOO SLOW. Using Bodyglide on my feet helped get the wetsuit off faster, but sitting down to do it is a huge time suck. What would you do differently?: Practice. Practice. Practice. Bike
Comments: This is a 3:00 improvement vs year ago. Even in the constant wind this was the best part of my race. I had about three people pass me early and then I passed loads of people all the way. I'm still not totally comfortable using my new aerobars so had one arm in them and the other one on the hoods with my elbow tucked in so I could shift easier. What would you do differently?: Get aero! Transition 2
Comments: A little faster than last year and I didn't forget anything like I normally do! What would you do differently?: Practice Run
Comments: A few seconds faster than last year. I hated this course last year and I hated it again this year, but knowing what to expect at least made it more bearable. I am bad running on grass, especially when it is totally uneven and rutted. I glanced at my watch a few times, but basically picked a medium hard effort and stayed there. What would you do differently?: Push harder. I still need to learn how to jack up the intensity when it hurts. 5ks are my least favorite running distance, but it is great pain threshold practice. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, got my gear back to the car and waited for the results to roll in. I was happy with 2nd in my AG and being the 8th female. If I have a prayer of ever being 1st AG in these smaller races I have a lot of work to do in all three disciplines. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to be a stronger swimmer and I need to wrap my head around a painful run. The biggest thing I need to conquer, especially as my distances increase to the HIM in September is fueling. I still suck at drinking on the bike. Event comments: This is a small town race run by three people who have a passion for multisport. They do a great job. The volunteers are enthusiastic and overall the course is a pretty one. Highly recommend and I will be back again next year! Last updated: 2009-04-25 12:00 AM

Up at 4:30, although I woke up a zillion times. Coffee and 1/2 bagel before heading out the door for the 90 minute drive.
It was cold so I did a 10 minute run, followed by a 20 minute swim. Spent the rest of the time in the water chatting it up with people (one of my favorite parts).
