Swim
Comments: This swim went amazingly well. I dare say swimmingly. The water was cold and I was glad I was able to get in about a minute before I started, just so it could take my breath away and return it before I started. At the end of the first lane, 50 meters in, I passed two people at the wall. Passed another person at 150, 250, another person in the middle of a lap, and another one right at the end, and we were climbing out of the pool together. All in all, I passed six people very smoothly, without climbing or fighting or hitting, or any of that sometimes unfun stuff. I felt strong, smooth, and graceful. Wonderful swim. What would you do differently?: Not much. It was a pretty good swim. Warmer water would have been good, but there was only one way I could warm it up, and I'm too kind to do that. Transition 1
Comments: I like not having to pull on my tri shorts, but just as I pulled on my shoes, waves of water cascaded out of my shorts and into my shoes. Not comfortable. Long run out of transition to the bike start. Long run. Realized as I ran out of transition that I didn't even do anything with my bike and hopefully it survived the trip up okay. What would you do differently?: Not dump water in my shoes. Bike
Comments: I took it easy on the turns, as the roads were wet. My shoes were wet, too, so they kept slipping on my pedals. First lap was at a great pace, flying. Second pace, not too bad. Third loop was a little slower, as my back started cramping up. Did not enjoy climbing that mean-mugger of a hill three times. Loved flying down a huge hill at 30+ miles an hour. It was hard to tell how I wass doing, as people were at various points on their loops. What would you do differently?: Not have a cramp in my back. Not much else. I biked on wet roads with no flats and no spills, so it was a good ride. Transition 2
Comments: Love my T2s, though it was long run with the bike again. Hate that. What would you do differently?: Not much. Put in a faster swim time so I don't have to run so far with the bike. Run
Comments: I don't run well on hills. Despite all the bricks and training lately (or maybe because of all the training), my legs felt pathetic on the run. I just took it slow and easy. A few hills were really tough. I figured after the first tough hill, there couldn't be anything else that bad. Wrong! I came around a turn and there was a tough one. I walked it. I walked faster than I could run. Started running again, and other than pauses for water, that was it for my walking. Not a fast run, but I felt better at the end than the beginning. What would you do differently?: Not much, if anything. Post race
Warm down: Hung around, ate pasteries, packed up, and then helped Setup close up shop. Some serious work there. What limited your ability to perform faster: My slow runs lately. General tiredness. Event comments: I love this race! And I love Setup Events! They do such a good job with these things. I had a blast, and even though I didn't win anything, having fun is more important, isn't it? This was my second time with this race and I'll do it again next year. I'm very grateful for race day packet pick-up this year, and thankful someone in charge of the weather smiled upon us. I am thankful for Greg at Setup for letting me do this race. Overall... great day! Last updated: 2009-04-25 12:00 AM

Didn't get enough sleep, woke up to a thunderstorm and pouring rain, had half a bagel (the other half was burned) and a piece of homemade bread for breakfast. Drove slowly and carefully to the race site with my friend, hoping the weather would clear. Got my race packet, took a bathroom break, got marked, picked up my chip, set up transition, and started stretching.
Just some stretching. By the time we got through the line for packet pickup, chips, and set up, there really wasn't time to warm up. We didn't even give it a thought. It was still drizzling, too. It stopped raining just before the race started (as in maybe five minutes), and by the time I got about two or three miles into the bike, the sun was out.
