Swim
Comments: Swim was good. I did a fairly good job of sighting on the finish after rounding the bouy but got a bit off track on the way out. I wasn't dizzy getting out of the water though and had enough energy to jump up the ledge getting out of the water. I didn't much care for the rocky bottom though. What would you do differently?: Need to work on sighting during the initial scrum and not worry about swimming just a little harder. Transition 1
Comments: hard a hard time getting the ratchets slipped in on the bike shoes Bike
Comments: bike course seemed tough. As I crossed I-5 on the last bit of the course there was an ambulance picking up some poor rider off the pavement. I don't think that it was a racer just some poor soul who crashed going down the hill. iIn any case the hill heading up to 38th really took it out of me for some reason. I am usually very strong on the hills but had to sit down and granny gear it up the hill. I was able to pass a lot of people and keep up with some obviously strong riders on for most of the course which was good. What would you do differently?: more hydration and probably some food. I had brought two bottles and had intended to use both but only managed to get one bottle down. Transition 2
Comments: lost my sun glasses make the last corner into the park after hitting bump. Run
Comments: I had the normal pain in my lower back and ended up with some stiff sore muscles in my shins which was unusual. I was determined to run the whole way and not walk which I was able to do but was dissappointed in not being able to meet the goal of the 8 minute mile. the people I passed on the bike passed me on the run. AGAIN argh! What would you do differently?: run faster! duh Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: judging by the severe cramps that I had later that afternoon I was probably dehydrated and did not have enough focus on nutrition. I wasn't cramping during the course but was struggling to get water and electrolyte into my body. Event comments: I would have appreciated a water station at about mile 1.5 on the run. It takes a mile or so for me to recover from the bike and I can't get the water to stay down from the aid station 100yards out of T2. Overall a good racing day. I would have like to have done better but considering the competition in my age group I don't think I did that bad. After all the guy who finished first at 1:33 (that's insane) was in my age group. All I can say is that there are some crazy in shape people in Bellingham. Last updated: 2009-04-27 12:00 AM
