Swim
Comments: I was pretty nervous at the start since this was my first ocean race...and there was some pretty good wind coming on shore making the water choppy...but once I started it was just like in training and I had no problems...I did lots of passing in the out portion and got passed most of my ag without trouble...some bumping coming back with some other fast swimmers but a very good swim What would you do differently?: not much...I think I can push the pace a little harder the next time though Transition 1
Comments: long run from swim exit to transition caused the long time...took the time to rinse off my feet since I went sockless...didn't rush things but saved good time goind sockless What would you do differently?: not much, I was 60th out 162 men so I'm happy Bike
Comments: Definitely an improvement ove my previous oly's good cadence and much higher avg mph...still got passed a lot but was doing more passing than I'm used to and the riders that were passing me were obviously much more experinced and had much better rides.....I need a new bike!!! What would you do differently?: get a new bike and keep putting in the miles Transition 2
Comments: ran slowly to get my legs in check and have a moment to re-group...got threw on my running shoes, hat and number belt and swallowed some electrolytes...18/31 ag and 47/162 men What would you do differently?: nothing, I'm happy Run
Comments: here's where things went wrong...I stupidly decided to wear the Zoot shoes thinking my blisters were healed enough and they were broken in and ok without socks...also I had put a blister guard on my foot just in case, problem was the guard came off during the swim...towards the end of the first loop the blisters started forming again and I ended up running half the race on the outside of my feet to avoid the painfull inside blisters...this of course slowed me down and I ran much slower than I have done this distance before...the little time it would have taken to put on socks would have been made up multiple times by running comfortably. What would you do differently?: Wear socks in oly's an internationals Post race
Warm down: got some help for my feet at the firt aid station...drank lots of water and gator-ade What limited your ability to perform faster: not wearing socks in the run...really I should have worn my Asic's with sock and leave the Zoot shoes for sprints only Event comments: great course and race, only I slowed myself down...I will have another chance on this course to improve this year in the Huntington's disease oly in august Last updated: 2009-04-30 12:00 AM

gto up around 4:30, ate a cereal bar and packed the car...left the house at 5:15
I brought my wet-suit to the race but the air was warm and the water had been great recently so I decided not to wear it. got my gear set up and headed to the start at about 6:15...did some stretching on the beach and walked in the water a little...race started about 10 mins late while the life guards set up the balloons.
