Swim
Comments: Race got off to a rough start with the military wave taking off when they launched the duathlon...had to pull the athletes out of the water...and start over..my friend Rich was part of this group and he really was dissapointed. My swim was fine..had not been in the pool all year really since I had been working on the running for the Boston Marathon...I felt I did fine except for the cold water and waves making it more difficult..felt I tried to focus on controlled breathing and staying calm. What would you do differently?: Train a bit more... Transition 1
Comments: Not a terrible transition...did probably take too long getting the wetsuit off but otherwise no real issues What would you do differently?: Not much..it went pretty smoothly. Bike
Comments: A better ride on the bike this year...I still dont push hard enough I think...or I'm not strong enough..I wanted to have some gas left in the tank for the run so I tried to be aware of what was going on with my legs and fatigue levels. What would you do differently?: Get more road bike time in...biggest weakness Transition 2
Comments: Probably would have been a better transition if I didn't get a right leg calf cramp...it took me a few more minutes to put on my sneakers... What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: So, this is where I still am challenged..I thought I could do better here with all the running I've been doing...but it's still the leg transition out of the bike...and it's also on the sand..I was hoping to target 8 min miles but it turned out to be 8:45's... What would you do differently?: Not much..I will keep working on my conditioning and speed. Post race
Warm down: Just finished and drank some water...ate a bannana..walked around a bit and looked for the family. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training..not enough bricks...and my winter focus on the marathon... Event comments: This was my first tri last year (ever) and I came back to improve on my time...which I did! This is a great setting and a great way to kick off the season.....other than the bad start for the military wave (which didn't impact me..) it was a great day. Last updated: 2009-05-01 12:00 AM

Woke up early (4:30) and drove to Wawa. Had a 16 oz coffee and a cliff bar...also a Vitamin Water...arrived in Sea Isle about 5:25, parked and found the bib pickup. Got my stuff and picked up my chip...went to the bathroom...back to the truck to unpack and met up with my friends Sarah and Mike...set up transition....talked to Rich and others in the transition area.
Swam in the ocean to prepare for the shock of the cold water...other than that...nothing...did run into my VP/GM on the beach with his kids...talked to my wife and the kids a bit as well...was a beautiful morning.
