Swim
Comments: My best OWS ever!!!! My goal was 30min and I nailed it!! I got in a good rythm of breathing and sighting and stuck with it the whole time. I swam as straight as an arrow to every bouy. Last year this was my first ever OWS and I was swimming for my life. This year I felt relaxed and just focused on the bouys. Great swim!!! One note about the water: I felt like I was swimming in a tank of gasoline...I could taste it, smell it, its still on my wetsuit. NASTY! What would you do differently?: Swim faster. Now that I can swim straight I need to swim faster. Transition 1
Comments: One of the top T1s in my age group...cant complain. What would you do differently?: Run faster to my bike and run it out of T1 faster. Bike
Comments: I'm happy with this time! I felt strong the entire time and felt that I saved enough for the run. I could have broke the hour mark but my legs would have been shelled for the run. First time ever getting passed on the bike.....that means I'm swimming faster....I'm ok with that!! What would you do differently?: Double check my gears the morning of the race after I take it out of the van. My rear derailer was jumping around a bit, could have easily been adjusted had I known. Next time I'm going to drill it and see what my legs do on the run. Transition 2
Comments: I actually sat down to put my shoes on this time. I have struggled putting at least one shoe on standin up so I thought I'd try something different this time. Only the pros were faster than me in the transitions so I must be doing something right. What would you do differently?: Move quicker, run in and out of transition faster. Run
Comments: I started off running with Zoe and Zed right out of T2. What great motivation!! For the first 2 miles I felt strong and just kept my pace in check so I didnt go out too fast. I was averaging 7:15/mile and feeling great. Then at mile 3 it all fell apart! I got the worst pain in my stomach (the one I always seem to get when I eat too much and compete!!!). I was about to start walking but I found a breathing rythm that kept my mind off of it. I just concentrated on my foot speed and my breathing rythm. Finally at mile 5 the pain went away and I was able to pass a few that got me. I was so pissed because I should have run a 45min 10k! I would have been 10th place in my age group if the run would have went as planned. On a possitive note I learned how to run through the pain. What would you do differently?: I have to figure out my eating plan for these shorter races. I always eat too much and feel it in the run! Post race
Warm down: Walked around with my brother, Zoe and Zed. My kids are so awesome!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Stomach pains during the run. Maybe the fact that I didnt workout the week prior....or it might have helped me?? Event comments: I have come a long way. Last year this race was all about survival. This year I felt like I was competing!! The icing on the cake was having my two awesome kids and brother there cheering me on!! I cant wait to see the video my brother puts together. Next year....sub 2:20!! Last updated: 2009-05-02 12:00 AM

Up early, my brother showed up early to help me load the van. I had a bowl of oatmeal with flax. Headed for the lake and got a pretty good transition spot. Walked around with my brother, Zoe, and Zed to show them great places to film and cheer. It was awesome having Zoe and Zed there they were so supportive and genuinly excited to see me race.
Right before the swim start I had a rocktane and redbull.
Jogged with Zoe and then by myself for about a mile. Got to the water too late for a warm up. While we were waiting for the pros to start I swam a bit.
