Swim
Comments: Swim felt great. Drifted a few times, but not too far. I felt very strong. I could not find a person to draft off of. Got t-boned once by someone going 90 degrees off course. Because I swam the inside, I had tight turns at the bouys and had to breast stroke for a second or two in the jam. What would you do differently?: I need more OWS to get used to when I can kick the afterburners in. I feel I swam strong, but I know I could have picked up some time if I had better judge of distances in the open water. Transition 1
Comments: I took some time to put on socks and shoes. I think the time spent here was worth it since the bike started up hill. I need to get a bit quicker putting on socks. Is there such a thing as a "speed-sock"? What would you do differently?: Dunno, look into sock options. Bike
Comments: Well, I need to work on my biking...especially the hills. I felt that I had the technical kinks worked out (Gu taped to the top tube, plenty of liquids, etc) but I got toasted on the hills. I know that a lot of it has to do with my weight (230) as I crept up the hills but flew down (topped out at 39.8mph). I also learned that I need to work on my tight cornering as I had to brake a few time which should be a no-no. What would you do differently?: Spend much more time in the saddle and get those legs up to a 20+ mph average. Not much more to say than that. I felt good in so far as I emptied the bike tank but could still run at a reasonable pace without any cramping. Transition 2
Comments: I feel good about this time as I was able to turn into run mode with little waste. I did stop to grab a quick drink which was dumb of me since they had water right at the start. Could have had a sub 1min transition. What would you do differently?: Meh. Not take the drink in transition. Run
Comments: I am not a fan of hill running but felt I did "ok" in spite of it. I am happy to have sub 9min splits, but I should have been able to push a bit harder. Hydration was good, heat regulation was good, I just need to get my speed up. Coming down the last stretch through the neighbor hood I picked up with everything left. I passed at least one person within the last 200y. Crossed the finish and felt like puking. I know I pushed my body hard on this race no matter what. It was the longest race I have done thus far and I was just trained enough to feel good about my performance. What would you do differently?: Well, I need to spend more time running distances and harder paces. I know I AM a sub-9 runner. I should not be running anything less during workouts. I should be pushing to get 5k paces to 8.5m or below. I have a sprint coming up in September and my goal is a 25m 5k Post race
Warm down: Drank water, had some pizza What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. I need more time on the bike and more running. Swimming could improve, but I am pretty happy with those results. Event comments: Can't wait for next year. Sub 2 hour goal. Last updated: 2009-05-03 12:00 AM

Well, Bachelor party the night before, so got ~3 hours of sleep. Woke up, had a Clif bar and a bunch of gatorade. Not the best way to do it.
Walked around...tried to calm my nerves.
