Swim
Comments: massive wave (age group women, athenas and relay) lots wore wetsuits i decided that morning that i would go without and i felt fine, VERY freeing after 2 open water swims with wetsuit to be able to fly through the water. also made me less stressed about my transition i started on the far outside right side and had to cut in to the first buoy, i know i swam more than the race distance for that reason, did a lot of freestlye every once in a while i would sight with some breastroke, felt good i was careful not to go all out so i had energy for the long ride What would you do differently?: would have increased my energy and done more breastroke on the home stretch as sighting was quite difficult. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: slowly mount to get both shoes clipped in quickly. Bike
Comments: i could have gone harder and yet i was really pleased with my pace, i didn't 100% know what was ahead because let's be honest riding the course in your car and riding on your bike are totally different. i felt as if the whole world passed me and yet I stayed steady with a pack the whole last 5 miles in. this was my fastest bike in a tri yet...significant progess has been made for me in this area. i did exit the water quickly so everyone who was weak in the water and strong on the bike got m here. What would you do differently?: think about my dismount before i got to the line. otherwise vast improvements from the off season - continue to do cadence work on the trainer and when outside conquer hills. i was also hungry or feelign hungry finishing the bike - eat a gu halfway thru (tape to bike) Transition 2
Comments: not sure what took me so long, i think i tried to do too much - got half of a gu in me while putting shoes on, etc What would you do differently?: get those quick tie laces Run
Comments: this is the area i have made the most improvements on in the off season my 5Ks during last tri-season were 37 and 38 mintues (i am embarassed to type that!)s o to be seeing 33 when my best non-tri 5K ever is a 31 is HUGE for me. What would you do differently?: i ran the whole thing, i could have pushed pace after mile 2 a bit more (especially since it was more down hill) Post race
Warm down: walked, jogged for 5-10 minutes. ate a fig newton bar right away got water in me.. What limited your ability to perform faster: energy - started to run out of fuel on bike, showed on the run Event comments: all in all, great course, excellent volunteers - everything has just the right amount of challenge to it. great bike course, excellent run - can't wait til next time! My hotel was forever away, so i got up at 4:45, left hotel at 5:15 (after a great impromptu Hampton inn breakfast pre-breakfast hours) got to race site a few minutes after 6. i am typically not here this early but it made me calm to have everything taken care of! Ate a mojo (clif bar), banana and half a bottle of accelerade (mango flavor-gross!)
took my bike for a loop around the lot to make sure it was in a good starting gear, same thing - ran the parking lot did some high knees and skipping to loosen everything up. i did get in the water prior to my wave starting which helped a lot, i always recommend that people do this with in water starts - get used to the wave patterns, etc
