Swim
Comments: Much easier swim than in previous year. The swim course was laid out in a very protected cove, and there was no wind anyways. So, it was a nice, flat, fast swim course. Transition 1
Comments: Run up the hill, to my TA spot. Stripped off wetsuit, and tried best I could to get my socks and cleats on. Bike
Comments: The course was made more dangerous by wet conditions and many novice and first-time racers. I made it a point to go with the 3rd wave of swimmers, so as to get out in front of those riders with perhaps less experience handling their bikes on wet, crowded roads. Transition 2
Run
Post race
Warm down: Rode my bike the mile back to my parking space. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training volume and consistency this year. Event comments: Fun and easy race. In hindsight, the racing in the rain was a good learning experience--from the logistical perspective to the actually racing in the rain. Last updated: 2009-05-04 12:00 AM

Forecast was for rain all weekend in Napa. Drove up Friday night and stayed with friends in Sonoma (about 1 hr from race site), and it drizzled and rained all day.
Woke at 5:00 on Sunday morning, packed the car, and headed out. I had done this Sprint 2 years ago, and raced the Half-Iron on the same course (same RD) last year. So, I was familiar with the drive and race site. The rain was POURING BUCKETS while driving on the narrow, twisty road over the mountain. I seriously considered turning around and calling it the day.
Arrived at the race site to discover, unbeknownst to me, the RD's had moved to a different campground a few miles from the original. That meant parking almost a mile away from the transition area, as opposed to right next to the TA.
Did I mention everything was complicated by rain?
With about 20 minutes before the race start, I discovered that I my goggles had fallen out of my backpack and were still in the car.
So, I ran two ten-minute miles in my wetsuite, with slippery flip-flops back to the car and back to the TA. That was my warm-up.
