Total Time = 1h 17m 42s
Overall Rank = 252/591
Age Group = m40-44
Age Group Rank = 24/42
Pre-race routine:

Slept approx 4 hrs, woke up at close to 2:30am, tossed and turned, eyes wide open until 3:30 - decided to get out of bed. Coffee, PBJ on whole wheat, banana. Left around 4:30am.
Took my time as I drove, made the wrong turn once in Staten Island and still managed to be the 3rd or 4th car in the parking lot. I was the first person in Transition, got a great spot at the end of the rack and set up my gear. Walked back and forth around the lot, boardwalk, transition, etc.

Event warmup:

Swam around for a few minutes to warm up. Water temp was actually very nice...happy i wore the sleeveless top.
Swim
  • 09m 15s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was happy with the swim...it felt like it went by quickly. I concerntrated on breathing every 3 bilaterally. Before I knew it, big bouy, make left and exit.
What would you do differently?:

Push a lit harder...I could have done better.
Transition 1
  • 04m 6s
Comments:

I really need work in T1 - not sure why I take so long...maybe double checking too much? Had a lil trouble with the wet shirt stuck in the bra position : )
What would you do differently?:

do everything quicker?
Bike
  • 36m 58s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.48 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Figure out a better way to mount the Garmin or leave it for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

Much smoother than T1, but still can't figure out what takes me so long??
Run
  • 25m 36s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow, tough start. Made a deal with myself to allow me to walk for 10 seconds at mile 1...approached mile 1 feeling better and renegotiated to walk at mile 2, felt good so decided to keep running, approaching mile 3 felt a surge of energy allwoing me to sprint the last .10 - some traffic close to the finish line made me slow up a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Overall did better than I thought I would...happy that I did not have to stop at all.
Post race
Warm down:

Quick shower, walked around and chatted.

Event comments:

Great Race - Very organized. Joe P is a fun RD!
I would recommend this as a warm up, first race, etc. Anyone with more experience might not find it challenging.

Course: Course was somewhat bumpy...lots of potholes and patches. My Garmin popped off and went flying to the side of the road not once but twice. Not really sure what the problem was, but second time I felt like leaving it on the side of the road...Then the $$$ for replacement came to mind and I quickly changed my mind. I had to stop, dismount, run back, wait for an opening, runa nd grab it and get back on the bike. Having to do this twice cost me some serious time. There were plenty of aero bottles, gel packs, CO2 cartridges, water bottles, etc all over the road. Otherwise, nice and wide making passing very easy.
