Swim
Comments: Well, I did a bit better on the swim than last year... 20:39 vs. 23:24. I was run over by more people so I guess that's a sign I was swimming faster! I even yelled at someone who swam into to me 3 times (and who also incidentally swam into Rachel multiple times). Still did not feel comfortable with bilateral breathing. What would you do differently?: Maybe get farther to the right in the start. Transition 1
Comments: Still faster than lst year 3:14 vs 3:19. My rack was the farthest from the bike out. I did feel like I was dawdling a bit. Need to keep practicing transitions as I was way over the 2 min mark. Bike
Comments: So still an improvement 52:49 vs 53:28 and over 19mph average! I had fun pushing myself until my legs were just below the level of a scream. It felt very good to push a big gear as I've been trying to focus on bike economy in most of my workouts Favorite point of the race: going down a decline on McCoy road, in the aerobars, pushing 30-31mph and passing another athlete on the outside. All while grinning ear to ear. The only thing that would have made it better was if there had been a cow right there. :) These are the moments I train for. What would you do differently?: Need to practice pushing a big gear in the aero position for these sprint races. I didn't want to sacrifice power for aerodynamics, so I was up most of the race. Transition 2
Comments: Well, this was worse than last year 2:14 vs. 2:03. I thought it went fast, but I guess in was the run-in with my bike to the farthest point in the TA. Run
Comments: I've never been able to break 8 min/miles in a tri! I felt good but my legs were a little spent from riding so much harder than normal. No real fatigue though as my endurance has improved. It was awesome having Jill and Cathy cheering as race marshals! What would you do differently?: Need to work on speedwork for these races. Also, I changed my laces the night before (I know it's a no-no) and my shoes were too loose. Post race
Event comments: I had some blue gatordade, some beer (did not go well with aforementioned blue gatorade) and then got back on my bike and road the bike course 2 more times to get some miles in. Last updated: 2009-05-05 12:00 AM

Well, I was told by my friend that I needed to have goals set before going into this race. I didn't really have any... so driving to the race, I made some goals. 1) improve my time over last year. 2) average bike speed over 19 mph 3) average run splits less than 8 min/mile 4) transitions less than 2 min.
Felt suprisingly nervous as my training has been entirely geared for "going the distance" with my IM in mind, and I don't routinely do any speedwork. Plus, I was annoyed as the guy next to me had his transition stuff really spread out and his bike racked wrong. :) I did, however, have an end rack spot!
