Swim
Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. Still so nervous! What would you do differently?: Nothing...this was an odd transition w/o any swim! Bike
Comments: I felt fantastic about this ride. I worked really hard and enjoyed it very much. I cat-and-moused a lot but it was with some really in-shape looking women who I was proud to be competing with. One gear shift lost me some seconds as I went way to high way to fast....but nothing tragic. This was the very best I could have ridden. My avg. was over 17mph. And with four tough hills in all, I'm not complaining. Most of the time when I looked down at my bike computer it read 25mph or so, but the hills had us all down to about 4mph on "the big one". What would you do differently?: Nothing. I practiced the course 3X and I'm glad I did. I think it gave me an advantage. Transition 2
Comments: I don't remember anything about this except..."Oh Jees...now I have to RUN!" I also remember taking off my helmet and wishing I did it sooner. I had energy beans in my back shirt pocket and ate some as I took off. What would you do differently?: Make sure to have Hammer Espresso. Beans are too hard to run w/in my mouth! Run
Comments: Hmmm. Well, I had that awful shoulder cramp again and was afraid to run too hard or it would intensify. So people passing me were working much harder than I was. I finally BURRRRPED and then it felt better. Not loving this pattern! Anyway, my new interval coach passed me on the last mile (he was running around volunteering) and lit up when he saw me on the course. That was cool. Also, an in-shape tan girl passed me with awesome speed and I commented "you look GREAT!" and noticed on her calf that she was 19. She said..."Thanks, I've been trying to catch you for 2 miles!" Wow. That made my day! What would you do differently?: I need to figure out this gas thing. Maybe take Gas-X before the next event? LOL Post race
Warm down: Stretched and did leg drains while staring at trees. I'm such a powder puff :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Maybe motivation? Fear? Not sure. I found this race to be very intimidating but was looking forward to the swim. I felt defeated by the lack of swim portion. Event comments: Wonderfully organized event. I will defiantly do it again, though the thought gives me nervous butterflies already :) Last updated: 2009-05-05 12:00 AM

With less than the desired amount of sleep (house guests the night before), I arrived at the race site at about 6:30 AM. That's when I learned that the swim had been canceled because of excess rain and the bacteria that leeched into the rivers from local manure. SO, I sadly set up in the transition area and jogged around a bit. I really had a hard time psyching myself up for the race after the news. I knew I would try hard, but I don't know if I tried my hardest. I did finish though, and this was a very tough course.
Jogged around a bit, greeted my "fans" who bothered to get out of bed to come watch me :) VERY local race for me!
