Swim
Comments: Not happy with my swim. I crushed it out to the first buoy and then made the turn to the second at which point for some unknown reason I decided to breast stroke. Turns out I breaststroked most of the rest of the way. I know I'm capable of crawling the entire thing. This swam eats it. What would you do differently?: Focus on crawling the whole thing. Transition 1
Comments: Had trouble getting my jacket on for this sucker. What would you do differently?: Get my stuff on faster. Bike
Comments: This is where I'm least happy. I was shooting for a 18.5 to 19 mph pace and this was just awful. Once I started going down, I just couldn't keep it up. For me the rain wasn't much of an issue, it just plain sucked. This made the entire race blah. What would you do differently?: train more on the bike prior. Transition 2
Comments: So if any of you Donkey relay teams are looking for someone to handle T2 for you, let me know. I'm your guy. Run
Comments: Aside from my stellar T2, this was my highlight sport. I figure I'm about a 9:00 minuter generally, so this was good. I felt good through most of the run, although I did begin to get hamstring cramping at about mile 2. Believe it or not, pinching my upper lip actually made them go away. I'm serious! What would you do differently?: Did get calf cramps right at the start again. Stopped on a tree and stretched them out, probably lost 20 seconds there. Other than that, not much. Post race
Warm down: Hung with donks, enjoyed my home-brewed recovery drink. What limited your ability to perform faster: not enough training on the bike and a crappy taper week (way too sedentary). Need to do more activity during taper week. Event comments: Really a disappointing effort from this Donkey. I tried to get ahold of Scoob's excuse generator, but he must've been using it. It was nice to say hello to all the Donks. I got a super transition spot (or so I though) right next to CWen, got my stuff out and ready and hung out.
Didn't get much of a warmup other than a couple of hotlaps in the water. Once in, the water was warmer than standing on the beach. Really needed a stronger warmup.
