Run
Comments: Well, I did this run a week after my first sprint triathlon. I did it on a whim. I had been surprised at my pace for the run in the tri, and wanted to see what kind of time I could get for a stand alone 5k. Of course, I was not entirely rested up from that first tri, and I didn't realize that this was a totally hilly course. So, I was a little disappointed that my time was slower than my tri 5k. But it makes sense looking at the two courses. What would you do differently?: More hill training. More training in general. Lose some more weight. More race experience. Otherwise it felt great. I was proud of myself for not walking up any of the hills. This is the first stand alone 5k I've done where I didn't walk at least some part of the course. I have a lot to learn about running, but I will only do it by getting out there and getting more experience. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little bit. Did some light stretching. Hot shower to warm up. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough hill training obviously. Not enough experience with racing. Not enough overall fitness. Not enough warmup. Carrying excessive weight. Event comments: This was another small race. I liked it. Seemed friendly and well organized. I would do it again (if I did more hill training of course.) Last updated: 2009-05-05 12:00 AM

Woke up early. Had a bagel with egg and spinach and a cup of coffee. Got to the race site pretty early. Wandered around a bit. Drank more coffee. Used the porta-potties like 3 times.
Walked around a bit to keep warm. I'm still slow enough that I figured that the first mile would serve as a warm up for me. I know that if I want to go faster, I'll have to warm up more ahead of time, but my fitness still is limited, and running before a running race seems intimidating to me.
