Swim
Comments: Made my way around women that were standing on boat ramp so could go ahead and get in water which was about shoulder depth off the ramp with sandy bottom. Ducked under water a few times to get acclimated. Much more comfortable with my open water swim this time. Cut my time by 2 minutes from last year. What would you do differently?: I would stay off to the right and take the long way around so that I wouldn't have to stop for people in front of me. Could have done much better in some open water. Transition 1
Comments: Had to stop on the run into transition for a sticker in my foot. Had to sit down to get feet wiped off good because they were too gritty. Did well getting socks, shoes on with Yankz. Put on helmet race belt and number. Grabbed some water and left. What would you do differently?: It would have been nice to have a bucket of water to rinse my feet. Bike
Comments: Guess I didn't do as good as I thought I was doing. Sometimes I forget what I'm doing and find myself just enjoying the views along the way. I've never "competed" in anything and really don't have much of a competitive nature. Took 1 minute off last years bike time. What would you do differently?: More time on the bike. Wish I had somewhere nice to right without a bunch of traffic. Transition 2
Comments: Woohoo, first place in T2. Racked my bike, took off my helmet, put on my hat, grabbed my wet washcloth and took off. What would you do differently?: I guess nothing! Run
Comments: Very warm and humid. Took about 1/2 mile to find any kind of rhythm and basically just found it at the end of the run. Took off 38 seconds from last year. What would you do differently?: Figure out how to get faster, if that's possible. Post race
Warm down: Walked over and grabbed a popsicle while waiting for transition to open. Racked my bike and watched most of the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Getting in the middle of the pack during the swim, lack of competitive nature, tentativeness on bike, turtle crawl on run. I'm not all acclimated yet to the heat and humidity this year that came on so quickly. Event comments: Average HR 157/max HR 180 Last year, this was my first ever triathlon and my goal was to finish in 1:15 and I finished in 1:06:59. I would have loved to have finished this year in under 1:00 but didn't figure it was possible. I did cut my time by 3 1/2 minutes from last year, so am happy. Maybe next year it will be under 1:00. Had alarm set for 4:45am but woke up at 3:30am and couldn't go back to work. Showered, loaded bike, and left at 5:15am. Got lost on the way with another woman (Nora), but we exchanged phone numbers, and found our way. Ate a crustless PB&J on the way.
Got my chip, walked to transition for marking, and racked my bike. Just happened was assigned to rack right next to me. Got myself oriented and talked with other women.
