Pre-race routine:

We had to wait a long time. Set up bike at 5 am and did not start my swim until 9:30. It was pouring really hard most of the time and I just sat in my car at first. Then I went to the swim line and just talked to fellow triathletes.
Event warmup:

None, just waiting and talking to other nervous but inspiring people.
Swim
  • 06m 15s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was very calm and I enjoyed it a lot. The 3 hour wait from the start was hard on the nerves though, but I will take it for such a nice swim format and I got to talk to other inspiring people.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster in the first 200 instead of focusing on relaxing in the water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

After the swim we had a run out the pool and down a wet grassy hill into the transition area. It was still raining at this point.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 42m
  • 11.5 miles
  • 16.43 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt the bike leg was my best part of the race. I went hard the whole way. A friend said I passed her fast and I never even saw her although I was looking for her. I took all the turns much slower than normal though since the roads were so wet.
What would you do differently?:

Ride faster if the roads are not wet.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

This transition went fine, no problems.
What would you do differently?:

Just try to do it faster.
Run
  • 24m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

After the bike segment(and a lot of rain), the sun came out. It got hot and it was humid. I took it easy for the first mile, then picked up the pace a little for the second mile. Then I picked it up more for the 3rd mile and the last 1/2 mile I ran hard. My daugher said, "You were kicking butt mom."
What would you do differently?:

Run faster for that 1st mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and ate a granola bar.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat on the run and the wet pavement for the bike. Not having a good aero position on my bike. I will get that done next season.

Event comments:

This is a great race. It started late and had a lack of volunteers due to the stormy weather. As the awards ceremony began (6hrs . after the race started), the last female finisher was walking by. The RD asked for us to applaud her. When we did, she started running, and ran about 300 yds. to the finish line with lots of applause. That was Inspiring!! I had so much fun at this race.
