Overall Rank = 34/377

Pre-race routine:

Had a horrible night's sleep in the back of the truck - probably got 4 hours of sleep (long story and it involves Mexican migrant workers and the Chelan County Police Dept.). We're not taking this as seriously as we could and maybe that is a mistake. Setup bike the night before and drove the course.
Event warmup:

Stretching, swam 5 minutes or so.
Swim
  • 28h 29m 18s
  • 1640 yards
  • 1h 44m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

Given that I have only one race under my belt (Bend, OR this June); the swim went pretty well. My focus was to stay relaxed and swim my own pace which did not happen in Bend. Swimming "my own race" went well and I even tried drafting a bit. The white line and clear water made sighting easy for a beginner. There was a lot of contact in the water. Several times I thought I was going to lose my timing chip. I wanted less than 30 minutes and I made it.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push it a bit more. Need some formal training or something.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Compared to the rest of my scores, my T1 was not as good. I need to do something differently.

Bike
  • 1h 04m 56s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 22.96 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't push the bike very hard since I wanted to save energy for the run. My scores are good compared to others. I could have gone faster. I wanted less than an hour but I didn't make it.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

This went pretty well. Technically I don't know what I should be doing. I don't really have a fancy plan or anything. Did not try going without socks or running and jumping into my shoes. That seems kind of crazy to me at this point.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure.
Run
  • 47m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I am not much of a runner historically, so this has been the hard, painful part of triathlon races and training. I guess I should be pushing harder. I don't wear a watch so I didn't know how fast I am going. I was happy when I finished at 2:23:25. That was a lot better than I did in Bend - but that was a much harder/slower course. I wanted less than 50 minutes and I made it.
What would you do differently?:

Event comments:

This is a great venue. The water clarity and warmth is remarkable. The bike and run are straight-forward out and backs. I would encourage other beginners to come to this course. It is a fun course.
