Swim
Comments: One guy actually grabbed my ankle in the first 200 yards. I couldn't understand it.? Some other contact, but nothing serious. What would you do differently?: Need to get some formal training this next year and start pushing it during the swim. This was my 3rd Olympic event and I am much more comfortable with the swim now. The starts are still crowded and awkward. Transition 1
Comments: Transitions are becoming much more comfortable with a bit of experience. What would you do differently?: Probably need to think more and consider the details if I want to save time. Bike
Comments: The road is a bit rough in some places and there is a fast downhill that is fun (but risky) at 51.7 mph. I passed some guy on the stretch who was holding mid-40s mph. It felt like he was standing still. I was committed to the line and thankfully there were no problems. This section has a two lane road with very good line of sight. What would you do differently?: Probably need to keep pushing the bike to improve. Need to be careful on shifting, I dropped my chain a few miles into the 1st hill climb which cost a bit of time. Transition 2
Comments: Did not wear gloves during the bike. That was good... if I would have wrecked I would have been sorry to have left the gloves behind though. What would you do differently?: Again, probably need to consider the minutia if I want to make improvements. Run
Comments: Ran my pace. Did not dig too deep, but felt great after the race. What would you do differently?: Probably nothing to meet my expectation at this time. It would be nice if I would train with more intensity so that I would run faster and still feel good. Post race
Warm down: Was able to eat right after the race for the first time. Drank fluid and stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. Ability (or desire) to push to the point that it hurts. Not sure about this part right now. It is not like I am going to win the race. 10th in my division isn't any different than 8th. Event comments: I heard that the swim bouy moved in shortening the swim course. My personal time validates that claim. That's not so good if you are evaluating swim times. Lots of fun in Coeur d'Alene. This is an Ironman town (now)!... it wasn't when I lived there 7 years ago. It is evident that the community cares about the athletes and the event. I was most impressed by the young and older adult groups. Good stuff. I still love Coeur d'Alene. Last updated: 2009-05-06 12:00 AM
