Swim
What would you do differently?: Just need to work on my speed, but I swam consistently and left the water without being tired. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Someone knocked over my sun glasses and I couldn't find them. I spent probably 30 seconds looking for them. Also, I need to figure out how to attach the race numbers to my tri-suit for future races in warmer weather. In this race, I wore an Under Armor cold gear shirt, which I already had my race numbers pinned to. It took a long time to get that top on with wet skin/suit. Bike
What would you do differently?: I guess I need to work on hill climbs more in my training. Aero bars would have been really nice, because my lower back was killing me by the end. Transition 2
Comments: Got a cramp in my calf as I was changing shoes, but caught it fast enough to get it stretched out. What would you do differently?: Run in the transition. Run
Comments: My legs were spent from the bike, and I didn't think I was going to be able to finish the run. Tough to transition from bike to run. What would you do differently?: Train more on the run, and train for the bike-run transition. Post race
Warm down: Just walked around, hydrated and stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Problems in the transitions, tough bike ride, lack of proper training on the run and bike-run transition. Event comments: Make sure you get to this race early (VERY early) so that you can get through the military checkpoints. Last updated: 2009-05-07 12:00 AM

For the past year I have maintained roughly the same workout. Monday: Weight training at noon, 30 minute bike and 30 minute swim in the evening. Tuesday: 20 minute interval run at noon. Wednesday: Weight training at noon, 45 minutes swimming in the evening. Thursday: 20 minute interval run at noon. Friday: weight training at noon, one hour bike in the evening. Saturday: OFF. Sunday: one hour run.
Nothing. Just hydrated a lot, took in carbs at about 5am. The race site is a lock-down military facility, so getting onto the base meant that your vehicle had to be totally inspected by the guards. That meant opeining all of the doors, trunk, hood, glove box, all occupants out of the car and hand over your driver's license...which resulted in a TON of backlog. We probably sat in line for 20 minutes at least, just to get through the checkpoint.
