Swim
Comments: Serious fog out over the water. Barely able to find the bouys when standing in the water and actually looking for them. I lined myself up in the inside before the start, and used the rest of my wave to sight off of (as I was breathing every other stroke on my left side). Sighting was good, as I had no problem find the bouys once we were closer, and didn't have an issue with it breaking my rhythm. What would you do differently?: Pust harder. I tried to go easy because I'm still uncertain in open water. After this race though I am must more confident. Transition 1
Comments: Struggled getting my shirt on, as I don't have a tri top to swim in, so I'm trying to put something on for the bike and run. Probably lost 10 seconds or so because of it. Draped my shirt over on the the poles, as its a bright blue color. Made for easy sighting of my row. What would you do differently?: Tri top. Bike
Comments: The course started up a hill, and i was struggling with getting myself moving, and fumbling with my glasses (I put them on in T1, but they got all fogged up immediately and I was having trouble seeing. Took them off and kept them in pocket for first few miles) What would you do differently?: Felt pretty good most of the ride. Other than ride faster, I wouldn't change much. Transition 2
Comments: Had my feet out of the shoes and had a good dismount. (Onto the gravel no less, perhaps not the smartest move, but it worked). The 1:03 time includes long run down the hill from dismount point. Running shoes on no problem. No socks and yankz laces make for a fast turnaround. Grabbed a GU and was on my way. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Had to push myself on this course. My run training also lacked leading up to the race, as I've always run and usually can use this as a crutch. However, this course really tested me. What would you do differently?: Put my training in, don't slack. Post race
Event comments: Again, not too happy with the run course, which I think was the concensus among most of the competitors. I'm still new to this, so I don't have a lot for comparison, and I know that running a race isn't easy. Being a first time event, I'm sure that the race director will make any appropriate changes for next year, as they see fit. Last updated: 2005-07-31 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:15. Took a shower to wake up, had a bagel with peanut butter just before leaving, around 4:00am. Ate a banana on the way to the race, finished it by 5:00am. Still completely dark at the race site. Was able to put down half of a Clif bar around 6:00. Also drank 24oz of water from the time I got up until around 6:00. Stopped fluids after that point with the exception of a few sips of Gatorade.
Lots of stretching while waiting in for the bathroom (nothing better to do). Short swim before our wave started, maybe 50M at most.
