Swim
Comments: There was a 100 meter turning run included in the swim time. with out it I was still only swimming 1:25 hundreds What would you do differently?: - i need to be in the pool practicing. I can't just show up and expect to be fast. Transition 1
Comments: i was excited to exit the trans area 2nd, passed first as he struggled with shoes - and then he hit his turbo charger and was gone.... not sure why it took 47 secs. i ran full tilt through, grabbed helmet, bike and left. Bike
Comments: it was COLD (40 and high winds). my feet were numb by the first mile. i should have put covers over my shoes before the race. i still am setting up my bike for fit/power What would you do differently?: train more -on this bike (most of my miles are on the bike I pull the kids trailer with) Transition 2
Comments: As I jumped off the bike I lost control of it. My feet and fingers were completely numb. I didn't even realized I disloged a bike shoe in the chaos. A race volunteer brought it to me. I could not get the chin strap undone. I started to do the shoes. I couldn't bend my legs without cramping my calves. I couldn't get my frozen toes into the shoes let alone the heels. I gave up trying after what seemed like an eternity, managed to unlatch my helmet, grabbed my shoes in hand and ran barefoot until I thought I could get them on (about 200 meters). I sat on a curb and managed to get them on. The T2 time says 1:37 but included my barefoot run and sit down to get my shoes on it was almost 4 minutes on my watch from bike dismount to running with shoes on. What would you do differently?: the trans was not the problem. it was not dressing for the weather in the bike Run
Comments: this is the second slowest 5k of my life. the slowest was during a period of life when I was not training and less than a week after giving blood. What would you do differently?: agian the issues were dressing right for the weather on the bike. Post race
Warm down: half mile run What limited your ability to perform faster: appropriate accommodations for the weather Event comments: i really liked the race. most things were to notch areas for improvement: it had a strange trans area with the bikes coming in and out of the same door. they made us wear caps in the pool. run from pool was a bit long. bike course was on very rough terrain for half mile.
