Swim
Comments: I finally started a swim without any nervousness or doubt. I felt I started strong and smooth and did well throughout. However, when I got out of the water, I saw that I was a full minute slower on the swim than last year What would you do differently?: I think I'm to the point in my experience that I really need to start seriously working on speed in my swim. I have the endurance, my technique keeps improving and I'm no longer scared of the swim leg. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Since this is such a short race, I'm thinking that I should forgo trying to put socks on and just race without them. Run to bike, dry off feet, throw on shoes and then unrack bike and run!!! Bike
Comments: The bike segment did not start off well. The first hill I shifted from big to small main gear and chain fell off. So I probably lost at least a full minute if not more fixing that and then getting back up to speed. Toward the end was beginning to look at the time on the bike and get discouraged so much so that every hill just seemed to kill me. What would you do differently?: Work on my bike strength - spin classes. Transition 2
Comments: Missed my rack again this race!! Even after counting and double counting. Lost probably a half a minute trying to find the correct rack. What would you do differently?: I don't know, maybe not be so retarded Run
Comments: Wasn't consistent in my running effort. I finished as hard as I possibly could b/c it took me several minutes to recover before I didn't feel like I needed to find a trash can. The second half of the race felt much better than the first, I felt like I had more left in the tank and could have gone faster but kept thinking that I didn't want to kill myself. What would you do differently?: Work on my sprinting speed. Need to do more repeats at much higher speeds. These have been completely missing in my training this year so far. Post race
Warm down: Walked around trying not to puke. Iced-towel on head helped. Had a veggie burger after things subsided and then an ice cream sandwich What limited your ability to perform faster: Mental blocks. I completely psyched myself up to thinking that I'd be able to break an hour in this race from false information of what my race time was last year. Completely unrealistic expectations and so once I came out of the water a full two minutes slower than what I had been shooting for, I never recovered from this. So I rushed the bike and got even more discouraged. By the time the run came I had a whole 10 minutes to hit my goal and so I just took it easy on the run since it would be physically impossible for me to run that fast. I've said this a million times before, but maybe now it will stick. I HAVE to start getting serious about my training. I can't just run & swim and bike. I don't have the time for nothing but junk miles. Every workout has to have a purpose. I need to regather and focus on what I want to accomplish this season. Event comments: I love Jack & Adams events! Every race I've run of theirs (this race was the 8th) has been excellent and just an out & out great time. I would absolutely recommend this race to anyone who's new to triathlon and any one who wants a nice, quick season opener. Last updated: 2009-05-11 12:00 AM

Arrived early. Leisurely took equipment over to body marking and transition. Set up bike area and then counted several times the number of racks from each side. Ate an Erin Baker's breakfast cookie and drank 10 oz of OJ as well as a serving of FRS.
Swam around 200 yards and then tried to stretch lightly and relax until start.
