Comments: Haven't been first out of the water for this race since '06. It was nice to hear that again. Got lane 7, numbered 77. I felt really good. But I'm a swimmer, so this was my wheelhouse. Without the lane lines, it was fun. Very engaging mentally. Couldn't shut down and go, had to pay attention. What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: It was cold, so I had to take a little more time on this one to get a U.A. long sleeve on before hitting the road. The temp was still in the low 40's and a little breezy. I didn't want to be fighting that on the bike. I have enough to worry about on this one. What would you do differently?: Pray for warmer weather so I wouldn't have to get this stupid shirt on. ![]() Bike
Comments: I don't know how to gear on a bike, especially with hills and climbs that are on this course. It was a rough course. A lot of up-hills and short flats on the back 1/2 of the route. I think the other bike course is easier. There is a turn-around at the 1/2 way mark at the bottom of a downhill. All speed and momentum GONE! What would you do differently?: Learn how to bike and gear properly. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Did a dead stop fall off the bike, as I tried to dismount while still in motion. Left foot got stuck in peddle and fell in front of everyone. I wasn't even moving. *laugh* What would you do differently?: Practice my awesome dismount before attempting again. ![]() Run
Comments: Some people make things look easy. I make running look painful. This was no exception. Hips hurt. Back hurt. Didn't start feeling anywhere close to better until the 1.8 mile. What would you do differently?: I think the pain stems from lack of riding/running bricks with my bike before the race. Getting a couple of those in before the race may help this pain. Now I just need the weather leading up to the race to cooperate. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Grabbed my bag and went to take a shower. Loaded up the bike and left the site. I don't cool down. I didn't sit down either for the next 1/2 hour either, but that was by choice. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike gearing was bad. Transitioning to the run was painful. Poor preparation for the dry-land. And I'm not that great of a runner either, but I blame genetics for that one. Event comments: This is a good and fun race. The racers are certainly nice people and very friendly. I wish more people would come out for this one and join us. It's well run, awards for winners, corporate trophy, it's great. Worth the trip. Last updated: 2009-05-11 12:00 AM

Woke up at 6:00 AM, turned on computer to check the weather, as this race has the potential to be rather chilly. Chugged a glass of water right off the bat. Another glass of water with two (2) PB&J sandwiches. Packed the bag, in the car at 7:00 AM and headed over. Halfway there, I realized I forgot my phone, went back home to get it. Got to race at about 7:45 AM. Got a pretty good transition spot, pumped the tires and racked the bike. Hung around and chatted with other competitors. Nice group of people. Hit a Power Gel before going to warm-up.
I probably don't warmup properly. About 20 minutes before the beginning of the race, I get in the pool and swim 100 Free, rest, 100 IM, rest, 2 times 50 free, 2 times 50 back. Just a nice warm-up recovery pace. Nothing too intense. A little eggbeater to stay warm. Stayed wet until the gun went off.
