Swim
Comments: This was a crazy swim. The river is pretty narrow and was low due to lack of recent rainfall. There were parts where my hands were hitting ground and even one part where you had to get up and walk through a shallow rocky section! I was #2 in my AG at the point where I had to get up and walk, but somehow I lost 4-5 places because I apparently was more cautious about hurting my feet than others. What would you do differently?: Nothing. It was a good performance. I still need more time in the pool to feel great, but for where I'm at in the training, this was good. Transition 1
Comments: Jumping on the bike was a bit slow, but everything else was good. Bike
Comments: This was a good ride overall for where I'm at in training. I'd like to be able to add another 2 mph by the end of the season. What would you do differently?: Only think I'd do differently is warm up before the race, then push the pace harder for the first part of the course. I took it pretty easy for the first 2-3 miles to break the legs in. Transition 2
Comments: This was a great transition. I had the shoes off in plenty of time and was able to keep momemtum while doing so. I jumped off the bike at just the right pace. What would you do differently?: Nothing - went very fast. Run
Comments: I had an asthma attack about 1/2 way up the large hill coming out of transition and nearly had to stop for assistance. I was able to get it under control by running ~9:30 pace for a while, but I unfortunately lost a couple of minutes in the process. Once I managed to start to breathe ok, I was able to keep the pace right around 7:00. What would you do differently?: I accidentally left my inhaler in the car. This would have likely made a big difference in the run. Post race
Warm down: Jogged back up the course to run Lorraine, Robyn and Kelly in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Asthma attack. Got to bring the inhaler next time. Event comments: Despite the crazy river swim (which would be much better on a non-drought year), this was a great venue for the race. The course was the most scenic I've done in Texas, and the management company did an outstanding job of making sure that everyone had a safe, fun event. I also really enjoyed tubing on the river after the race - very relaxing! Last updated: 2009-05-11 12:00 AM

Slept in by almost an hour prior to the race! Fortuantely, I had planning on being early. I drove fast and managed to get to the site 45 minutes before start.
No warmup. I didn't have time.
