Pre-race routine:

Arrived on Friday night and picked up race packet. Stayed at a local motel. Up at 5am. Hardboiled egg, Bannana,
Powerbar and Gatoraid. At Craigville by 6am and the place was packed. It was cool to see all the racers and there bikes.
Event warmup:

Setup transition, did some light running and stretching. Put on wetsuit and tested the water. I was in the 8th wave so I got to watch most of the swims. It looked like some people were having trouble before the first buoy. The sun was shining by the time my wave started.
Swim
  • 07m 42s
  • 450 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

I let the group go first so I could have some space to get into a rhythm. Seemed that I swam to the first buoy with my head out of the water. Once passed the first buoy I found my spot and relaxed and focused on my stroke.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep practicing.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Didn't take time for trans. Did take a few seconds longer because I wanted to get the sand off my feet.
Bike
  • 37m 35s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.96 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Maybe spend more time in the drops.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No time. Things felt quick
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 29m
  • 3.5 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Stomach pains for the fist mile. Felt like I was going to vomit. Slowed down a bit concentrated on relaxing and breathing. By the mile marker I was feeling good. Second half of the race I felt fast and smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some Gatorade. Walked around watched some people finish and packed up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Very satisfied with my race. This was my first race with swimming in 10 years. Feeling like I might want to try and Olympic distance by the end of the summer. I usually start out too fast thinking I'm going to win the race.LOL. I stayed with in my range, felt comfortable, except the very first part of the run and finished strong. I could definitely bike and run longer. Just have to practice my swimming more to remain confident and continue working on my stroke.

Event comments:

Everyone was great, well organized. Will be doing this on again.
