Swim
Comments: First time wade start. I wish I would have had a better understanding of the course and I wish that they had the course better defined for the swimmers. Maybe because I am new I think this, maybe it was fine comparatively speaking to other races. I felt way to excited at the start, but then settled in after about 100 yards, I let go of any inhibitions and nervousness and then just concentrated on breathing. I felt stronger as I finished. What would you do differently?: Understand the course better and train harder! Transition 1
Comments: I really want to upgrade my biking shoes and start to ride without socks. I know that this would save me about 20 seconds in transition and I would love that. All in all, it went well. What would you do differently?: Learn to jump on bike with shoes already clipped in. Bike
Comments: This was my first time on a "real" road bike and I was so pumped. I kept it in high gear almost the whole time and barely let up, if at all. I was just so excited, I trained on hills and just kept repeating to myself in my head "push a bigger gear" I must have passed about 50 people and loved it. I had only trained on my new "real" bike 4 times before the race. This is my first time ever riding in biking shoes or clip on pedals. I have much too improve upon. What would you do differently?: Train harder and right. Transition 2
Comments: I am still new to this and need to improve, again I would like to leave my shoes on the bike pedals...that will happen soon. What would you do differently?: see above Run
Comments: I was not feeling that strong at the start of the run as I have in training, but I found someone early on to pace to and stuck with him. My calves were a little weak at the beginning and I fought off a stitch about half way through, but I did fine with a very strong finish. I passed two people up at the very end. That felt great. What would you do differently?: Train harder and right. Post race
Warm down: I celebrated with an icy Vitamin water and some high fives. Stretched a little, but too excited to settle down. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat was not that much of a factor, but it does hurt a bit more in that heat. I think I also underestimated the type of conditioning that I have now and can achieve. I will improve based on this experience. Event comments: It was a great time, the awards ceremony and the finish were very anti-climatic and rushed or maybe just seemed like a passing after thought, not too creative and not bold enough. I got up 2 hours prior to the race. Drank a Red Bull, 1 piece of toast with peanut butter, a little Gatorade, Revive Vitamin Water and water. I also took one Aleve due to a slight lower back nagging something.
I prepped in the transition area prior to the race. I ran around a bit to warm up and loosen the arms. I went to the bathroom and literally arrived at the start of my wave just as they were getting into thewater, I alomst missed it! It helped in retrospect because I did not have enought time to think about anything before getting in.
