Swim
Comments: This basically taught me that i need to learn how to freestyle. I breast stroked the whole way/floundered through the water...amazed i actually finished before 50 minutes. What would you do differently?: Learn how to freestyle before the race. And train a lot more. Transition 1
Comments: Had a bit of trouble getting the socks on being that everything was a bit damp and i wasn't really sure what to do. Bike
Comments: So apparently the road/hybrid bike i borrowed from my friend's frame was meant for someone around 6 feet 6 inches...i'm 5'8. Oh well, too late now. Beggars can't be choosers right? But anyways, the common theme for this race was i definitely needed to train more for one of these. What would you do differently?: Try to get a smaller bike, and train more. Oh and riding the course would've probably helped too. Transition 2
Comments: I decided to throw on a different shirt than my biking jersey seeing it was a pain to run in. I don't know why, i just didn't like it. Anyways, i wanted to advertise Howard County Striders (not really, just my internal justification for not coping with the jersey). What would you do differently?: Buy a jersey that i can actually run in i guess. What are these fancy tri suit things O_o? Run
Comments: Finally, something i can actually do! Being a cross country runner, i was quite disappointed with my time. And the fact that i had to walk up some parts of hills. I ended up drinking a lot of gatorade in hopes that something will help my legs that were about to fall off, and finally by mile 3 they weren't hurting as much, but i dunno if that's because of the gatorade or not. Correlation does not equal causation! I had planned on starting to book it at the straight away right before the finish, but lo and behold my legs started hurting right when i got there :(. Oh well, i still sprinted it in though :). What would you do differently?: Do some brick training. Gosh, i'm not good at this training thing... Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. A lot of lacking. Event comments: I went to see the iron girl last year to cheer on some friends, and watching it i was motivated to do one of these things. So i came home that night, looked for the closest one, and was like cool. I tried getting a friend to sign up, but he backed out and i had already paid for the registration fee so i decided to stick with it. Being my first triathlon, i was just aiming for finish. And i'm actually amazed i did. This triathlon stuff seems pretty fun, but i'd definitely need to learn a lot more before trying again (how to freestyle -_-''). And train a lot more. There seems to be a theme going on here. Oh, the people there are great! Being that i read reviews for this race before race day in hopes of seeing what it'd be like, if someone out there is reading this and this is going to be their first one, i'd just like to say you can do it! And don't give up, no matter what your mind is telling you. It's a great feeling when you finish and completely worth the pain that you went through to get there. Last updated: 2009-05-16 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:15, whoa it's actually race day! Ate a banana, and this random bar they gave us seeing as how my house was devoid of bread, bagels, or anything else people told me to eat before the race.
