Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3am (in West Jordan). Had to get out the door to start my drive to Ogden by 3:30am. On the drive up, had a tire blow! So, I got to change a tire on my car in the dark at 4am. It was great! Made it to the buses by 5am (a touring coach!), and took the ride up to the start.
Event warmup:

Stood around a bonfire trying to keep warm, and pacing back and forth eyeing all of the runners to see if I could spot the other runners from my neighborhood. Managed to spot a few.

Made a couple of stops at the porta-potties for an evacuation of #1, and then 10 min prior to the race, stripped down to running clothes (Brrr!!) and stretched... Lined up at the race start between the 7min/mi and 8min/mi pace flags... anxiously awaited the start.

Comments:

Did not get into my mental groove on this run. I watched every mile marker go by and thought about the running despite the music and other distractions. Still, I used the fact that miles were passing by quickly to give myself a mental edge. I fell apart at mile 11, slowing my pace down by about 1 min/mi. Overall though, I thought I did excellent with managing my pace considering. All of my training runs were right around 8:30/mi, and I stepped up this run by 1 min/mi, so I knew it would be challenging. And even when I slowed down, I just slowed to my training pace.
What would you do differently?:

Push through the pain/mental agony in the last two miles. It may have helped to get in a longer last training run prior to the race (I only ran 10 miles last weekend -- that may have affected my mental condition). I think I wore the wrong socks too -- got some icky blisters that weren't very comfortable...
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching while enjoying a water and complimentary Jamba juice. Lots of walking around, trying to spot the others' finish. Called my wife and announced my finish. Hopped in the car after about 1 hour and headed back home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Legs were wiped by Mile 11, and my mental state was shot. I think my mind mostly held me back. I think part of it was also setting the lofty goal. My watch consistently nagged me and it made it very difficult to push through the last two miles. I knew by slowing I wasn't going to hit my goals and it was discouraging :) I think next time, I'll try not to pay attention to the watch as closely and just run what "feels good". Also, it would have helped to be familiar with the course.

Event comments:

I was very impressed with this race! It was very well organized, scenic and just a lot of fun. Worth every penny I paid ($75 for late transfer :)). It will definitely be at the top of the list for next year!

Performance: Good
Course: Great! A slight uphill at Mile two, and then from Mile 2 to about Mile 11, it was mostly downhill, with a couple of "cruising (pounding) sections. Finished on a running trail with lots of small rolling hills (they're small, but you feel them by Mile 11 ;)
