Swim
Comments: I let myself loose focus. I was winning the whole swim by a few body lengths. But then I lost sight of the direction and went off course after rounding the first buoy. I had to work my way up from third to second, and I could never catch up to the lead again. Worst, when I got on the beach, my legs fell apart and I got passed handily by the guy I'd just passed (and who went on to win the whole race) on the run to the 1st pad so I lost what I'd worked for in an instant. What would you do differently?: I need to keep my cool under pressure. Transition 1
Comments: I had to slow down because I couldn't get my wetsuit unzipped! That sucker got stuck and I was left fidgeting around in the Transition area. At least I got my bike out quick and didn't mess up the mounting badly. Regardless, somehow I had the 7th fastest T1 time (tied with 2 others). My HR shoots up to 190 when I transition, but it is only in the 150's when I swim. I'm not sure what to do about that either. Max HR: 190 What would you do differently?: I have no idea. Bike
Comments: I really am proud of my bike effort. I made sure to do my best, and I think I did. What would you do differently?: The only thing to prep more would be interval training on hills. Transition 2
Comments: I had a pretty good T2, even though it ranked 20th overall! I felt much faster. I did totally go to a stop to put my shoes on, which was more due to exhaustion. At least I made more errors and had my head on about me. What would you do differently?: Not much other than hurry up! Run
Comments: I train on trails mostly, and those have small up and downs and require a lot of technical running, which I prefer. This run really took a lot out of me. The last quarter mile or so near the water on the grass was a real bright spot. I got passed by two younger runners on that last stretch, but I also pushed my own pace at the end. It was easy to go hard there. What would you do differently?: Interval training. Post race
Warm down: Chatting with friends and two massages and a light shower. What limited your ability to perform faster: My lack of sleep the week before, and the stress that last Saturday night. Event comments: I'll definitely do this race again! Last updated: 2009-05-16 12:00 AM

I did not sleep well the three nights leading up to the event, so I was exhausted much more than usual since I had the kids alone all week. Luckily, I had some help, but I was much more tired than usual leading up to the event.
Luckily, I got to the event early enough to go to the toilet and change into my race clothes and drink some juice to pep up.
Waded in water and stretched out.
