Swim
Comments: I was disoriented in the swim, but my experience and confidence really took the day. I went out hard, almost stopped trying, but just kept at it. I wasn't too tired when I finished, and I stay 2nd overall all throughout. Oh, and I had a terrible foot cramp the minute I started that never went away and still hurts today, a full day later. Not a good omen to start with. gugh. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: I've never been as disoriented in a transition. My lack of sleep for the four nights before was really toying with me. I wasn't really sure where I was. I went down the wrong aisle. I stood in front of my bike for several seconds, and saw Travis (who was behind me on the swim) take pass me while I was trying to figure out where my head was, in the transition area itself. Regardless, I'd really practiced the super-fast mount on the video page of this site! It really worked! I had the BEST transition onto my bike ever. I was super fast. I got to speed. I did it all while running. It was a fantastic. What would you do differently?: Sleep at least more than 8 hours over the last four days. Bike
Comments: My goal was to do the bike well. And I did.... for the first part. I was loosing touch with reality as the race when on, and my biking was getting worse as it went on. What would you do differently?: Sleep. Transition 2
Comments: I was a mess. But I still moved through on this due to practice. What would you do differently?: Sleep Run
Comments: I fell apart here. I totally quit. Then I'd try again. Then I'd loose touch. I wasn't doing well at all. Oh, and my arches were falling. My muscles were spazing out. My mind was not in charge of my body, and my body was about to go on strike until it got some sleep. I'd lost all gycogen in my legs. I lost all will to win. I was well ahead of my friend Jim, but I could barely keep ahead when he passed me. I also let two folks from my AG pass me thinking I was then third. I just didn't have my kick. My time even shows it. I was INCREDIBLY slow. I'd been practicing and projected that I could go 6:30 pace for this short hilly course. That would've made me at least 3 full minutes faster, and into second place in my AG. But I didn't have it. I just didn't have it. What would you do differently?: sleep. Post race
Warm down: chatted with people What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of sleep. my body felt great. my mind felt aweful. Event comments: I like this race a lot. I will certainly do them again next year. Last updated: 2009-05-16 12:00 AM

I had insomnia, so I drove over there when I had enough calories in me not to pass out during the drive
